Assistant Controller

We are seeking an Assistant Controller. In this role, you will be responsible for managing financial operations to ensure accuracy and efficiency across various accounting functions. You will be required to have a strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, regulatory compliance, and proficiency in accounting software.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately track costs, revenue recognition, and profitability for each construction project, collaborating with project managers to monitor financial performance and address any discrepancies.
- Develop and maintain robust internal control procedures to protect company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
- Prepare accurate financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, providing analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and industry-specific requirements for heavy highway construction, implementing necessary adjustments to financial processes.
- Support company tax preparation, including sales tax, payroll tax, and corporate income tax, ensuring timely filings.
- Utilize and maintain proficiency in accounting software systems for efficient data management across multiple subsidiaries.
- Collaborate with external auditors by preparing audit schedules, documentation, and resolving audit inquiries.
- Oversee routine accounting tasks, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed asset management.
- Proven experience as an Assistant Controller, with 5 or more years in a similar role
- Proficiency in accounting software systems is mandatory
- Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with accounting functions
- Demonstrated ability to manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR)
- Proven experience in auditing and ensuring compliance with financial regulations
- Skilled in managing and overseeing all billing functions
- Prior experience in Construction Accounting is required
- Understanding of construction cost and job cost necessary
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
