Responsibilities

The Director, Pediatric Surgical Services provides oversight to and direction for the full spectrum of preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care. This includes, but is not limited to, making recommendations on policy issues and technology needs regarding surgical services, identifying opportunities to attain superior quality and safety at the best cost, implementing solution sets and ongoing evaluations of performance, as well as planning, directing and evaluating operational performance of the surgical services division.

The Director, Pediatric Surgical Services with Norton Children’s Hospital will operate in a highly matrixed system supporting three facilities in the Norton Healthcare system. Norton Healthcare is a not-for-profit hospital and health care system with five Louisville-based hospitals, three hospitals in Southern Indiana and one under construction in West Louisville that is scheduled to open in late 2024.

Norton Children’s is a leader in caring for children throughout Louisville, Southern Indiana, the commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond. As the region’s only full-service, free-standing pediatric hospital, Norton Children’s Hospital, along with its predecessor hospitals, has cared for children for more than a century without regard to their families’ ability to pay.

The 300-bed hospital is Louisville’s only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and serves as the primary pediatric teaching facility for the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic and financial planning for surgical areas of responsibility. Responsible for the financial performance of surgical areas of responsibility by identifying areas of expense, revenue, growth and excess, including development of operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide direction to management staff within surgical areas of responsibility. Actively mentor and coach direct reports, providing opportunities for personal and professional growth. Provide a supportive environment for team building.
  • Provide overall leadership, direction and administration of operations for surgical areas of responsibility. Oversee the development and implementation of plans, operations and programs within assigned areas of surgical services. Actively participate in strategic planning, policy formulation, resource planning and facility planning. Remain current with local trends and changes in nursing profession/practice.
  • Provide leadership to surgical services management teams to achieve business goals, quality outcomes and customer satisfaction. Utilize a data-based approach and facilitate innovation and creativity in the identification and development of quality, safety and patient experience initiatives. Identify quality, safety and cost opportunities within surgical services and develop solution sets based on evidence-based best practices to improve the value of services provided. Lead change regarding quality of care and operational enhancements including implementation and communication plans.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Three years management in a healthcare setting
  • Bachelor Degree
  • Registered Nurse

Desired:

  • Pediatric experience
  • Master Degree
