Do you want to change lives? If so, we’d love to have you on our team! Shelter House is seeking a collaborative, passionate professional who is passionate about ending domestic and sexual violence to join its team as the Director of Artemis House, Region 1.

The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Artemis House Region 1 emergency shelter for persons fleeing domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking. This position oversees all areas of service delivery, program development, and implementation for Artemis House Region 1.
The Director of Artemis House R1 works collaboratively with the Director of Artemis House Region III and the Senior Director of Domestic Violence Services to ensure services are streamlined and consistent across the program. Additionally, the Director regularly collaborates with Shelter House’s Domestic Violence Supportive Housing Program (DVSH) to ensure continuity of care for mutual program participants.

Working as part of Shelter House’s Leadership Team, the Director develops strategies to accomplish program goals in accordance with agency philosophy and best practices. In collaboration with the Senior Director of DV Services, the Director will partner with Fairfax County government and community agencies to contribute to and promote a coordinated community response to serving victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Requirements

How you will contribute:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all components of service delivery for Artemis House Region 1
  • Collaborate with the Director of Artemis House Region III to ensure consistent programming and effective coordination of services across regions and with the Director of Domestic Violence Supportive Housing (DVSH) to ensure effective support of those individuals interfacing with both programs
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Programs (direct report), ensure the case management team implements a trauma-informed, client-driven approach in all facets of daily work (completing safety plans, court accompaniment, shelter intakes, counseling sessions, etc.)
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Operations (direct report), coordinate and oversee facility maintenance; manage contractors and vendors providing supplemental services to ensure the facility's compliance with all health and safety regulations, assemble a trained team of essential personnel available to work during safety / weather emergencies and to provide excellent customer service meeting the needs of shelter program participants
  • Provide coaching and professional development support to direct reports through regularly scheduled one on one meetings to include review of cases, encouragement and support in growth areas, critical feedback, etc.; coordinate training and professional development opportunities for program staff
  • Ensure team culture is one of curiosity, learning, and engagement in providing best practices. Host regular staff meetings for purposes of expectation setting, providing updates, team building, training, growth and development – this may include hosting meetings during evening or weekend hours to ensure 24-hour staff can participate.
  • Oversee ongoing program evaluation, needs assessments, and client satisfaction and participation activities to include regular collection of grant required surveys
  • In partnership with the Artemis House Community Coordinator and the Development department, ensure program volunteer and in kind donation needs are met
  • In partnership with Shelter House’s Data Program, ensure the regular, accurate collection of program and client data; the preparation of statistical and other reports to be used in community education, quality assurance activities and contractual agreements; manage the overall input and accuracy of data stored in the VAData system
  • Develop new program initiatives in conjunction with the Senior Director of DV Services and Fairfax County government based on program outcomes and needs
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of DV Services and Controller to ensure efficient and accurate usage of program budget; verify and approve staff timesheets, leave requests, and check requests
  • Coordinate with Fairfax County Government and other agency partners to support effective interagency collaboration and ensure contractual compliance
  • Maintain current knowledge of issues impacting homelessness and domestic violence
  • Serve as the Artemis House representative to community-wide domestic violence and homelessness service initiatives as assigned
  • Ensure that services are implemented in accordance with agency philosophy, best practice, grant and contract requirements and all applicable federal, state and local regulations
  • Deliver presentations to external parties about the agency and domestic violence at the request of Shelter House’s Executive Leadership Team
  • Actively participate in Shelter House meetings and events
  • Serve in an on-call capacity to help staff address crisis issues

  • Other Duties as assigned and as needed

About You:

Required:

  • A master’s degree in human services / related field or commensurate experience
  • 3+ years of program and staff management
  • Experience managing budgets and funding sources
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing priorities and make sound judgements
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed

Preferred:

  • Experience leading / supporting programs serving homeless families and /or victims of domestic violence / sexual violence
  • Experience leading/ managing in a residential environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Annual TB Test is required
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift items weighing 10-20 pounds
