Psychiatric Social Worker/Outpatient Therapist
Overview:
The George J. Otlowski, Sr. Center for Mental Health Care is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Psychiatric Social Worker to join our outpatient program. Located in Perth Amboy, NJ, our center provides behavioral health services to the Middlesex County community and is one of the largest outpatient behavioral healthcare facilities in the region.We offer a multi-modality treatment approach designed to address a variety of psychiatric conditions and co-occurring disorders. The Psychiatric Social Worker will be a key member of our clinical team, collaborating with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide individualized, recovery-focused care to patients.
Responsibilities:
Client Interviews and Assessment:
- Conduct interviews with clients and their families to gather relevant social, psychological, and psychiatric data necessary for treatment planning and diagnosis.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with public and private agencies, schools, police departments, and other relevant organizations to obtain additional information that supports the treatment process.
Case Documentation:
- Prepare comprehensive, concise, and accurate histories of clients, incorporating data from outside agencies, and ensuring all documentation is detailed and informative.
Service Explanation and Advocacy:
- Educate clients, their families, and other stakeholders (social workers, teachers, judges) about available services, treatment options, and facilities.
Recommendation Interpretation:
- Effectively communicate treatment recommendations to clients and their families, as well as to other involved professionals, ensuring clear understanding and action.
Client Support:
- Offer guidance and counseling to patients, including those who may be resistant or anxious, helping them engage in their care and navigate the challenges of psychiatric treatment.
Adjustment Assistance:
- Provide support to clients as they make necessary adjustments in their lives, helping them achieve successful outcomes in their treatment plans.
Report Writing:
- Prepare psychiatric and social work reports, including findings, conclusions, and actionable recommendations, to inform treatment decisions.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, ensuring that all case files are organized, secure, and compliant with confidentiality standards.
Qualifications:
- Education: A master's degree in social work from an accredited college or university.
- Licensing: Must hold the credential of Licensed Social Worker (LSW) issued by the New Jersey State Board of Social Work Examiners.
- Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred to effectively communicate with our diverse client base.
