Description:

CTG is seeking to fill a Scrum Master II opening for our client in Buffalo, NY.

Location: Buffalo, NY

Duration: 6 months

Overview:
The Scrum Master II will provide servant-leadership and mentorship to multiple cross-functional agile teams by effectively applying Agile principles and frameworks, such as Scrum, Kanban, and Extreme Programming (XP). This role aims to strengthen the understanding and application of effective practices, techniques, and methodologies to support continuous improvement.

The Scrum Master II will help create an environment of self-organization, collaboration, and transparency, guiding teams to overcome impediments and continually improve performance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support agile teams, ensuring the effective application of agile principles (Scrum, Kanban, XP, etc.) to enhance team performance and deliver high-quality results.
  • Facilitate meetings including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews.
  • Encourage and promote a culture of continuous improvement, driving self-organization and cross-functionality within teams.
  • Address and resolve any blocking issues that are beyond the team's authority, collaborating with other teams as necessary to ensure progress.
  • Guide teams in the creation and use of information radiators to provide transparency into their work and impediments.
  • Mentor and support less experienced Scrum Masters, providing coaching and guidance on best practices.
  • Collaborate with other Agile Leaders to drive the adoption and success of Agile practices across the organization.
  • Facilitate and promote team learning opportunities, such as conferences, meetups, and training, to continuously grow agile knowledge and capabilities.
  • Ensure adherence to the company's risk and regulatory standards, and escalate any risk-related issues to management.
  • Support the maintenance of internal controls and assist in the timely implementation of audit points and any issues raised by external regulators.
  • Foster a work environment that reflects diversity and upholds the organization’s values and brand.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:

The Scrum Master II manages activities through influence and accountability, operating in an agile environment where they will be expected to guide and support teams to achieve their goals.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:

This position does not have direct supervisory or managerial responsibility, but manages team activities through influence and leadership within an agile framework.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience as a member of an agile team, including at least 2 years as a Scrum Master.
  • In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years of higher education and/or work experience, including at least 4 years as a member of an agile team and 2 years as a Scrum Master.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Depth of knowledge in at least two technology team roles (e.g., project manager, user experience, business analyst, developer, tester, deployment).
  • Prior experience fostering team self-organization and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and Lean principles and practices.
  • Experience developing and managing digital capabilities.
  • Understanding of Design Thinking principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience leading teams through influence without direct authority.
