Manager, Surgical Quality - Ambulatory Surgery Centers

Position Summary:
The Manager, Surgical Quality is responsible for creating the clinical standards, quality, and patient safety efforts for sterile processing and other operating room functions, across Orlando Health, Ambulatory Surgery Centers. This includes ensuring proper processes are followed by clinical areas for compliance with industry standards, manufacturer’s Instructions for Use, and regulations.This individual will work closely with physicians, surgery center leadership teams, and Orlando Health’s quality team to identify educational and orientation needs within the surgical areas.
Responsibilities:
- Develops departmental quality standards for assigned OR functions, including sterile processing and high-level disinfection operations, across the Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
- Provides performance improvement activities across Ambulatory Surgery Centers, development of action plans, and follow-up related to all surgical areas; and is knowledgeable about regulatory standards, instructions for use, and national society standards related to sterile processing.
- Plan, implement and manage policies, procedures, competencies, educational activities and quality assurance programs related to acquisitions, use, storage, and sterilization of reusable surgical instrumentation and other medical equipment utilized in the delivery of patient care and treatment to ensure compliance with administrative and regulatory standards within the healthcare facility.
- Serves as an expert of sterilization and high-level disinfection systems.
- Works collaboratively with perioperative and organization leaders across the Ambulatory Surgery Centers to ensure preparedness for cases and future needs.
- Improves metrics related to quality and patient safety through root cause analysis, development and implementation of clinical protocols, and continuous monitoring.
- Collaborates with quality and surgical leadership to develop annual departmental strategic and operational plans.
- Assists in preparing annual budgets, reviewing staffing requirements and cost-effective programs for all services in areas of responsibility.
- Develops initiatives to improve recruitment/retention efforts to help minimize department vacancies.
- Maintains knowledge of industry best practices with continuous quality and performance improvement strategies by reporting and collaborating with organizational leaders.
- Assures departmental quality standards are achieved and demonstrates accountability for improving services within department and system.
- Ability to perform and teach technician duties to assist as needed.
- Other duties as assigned based on business operational needs.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with OHI policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Business or Health Care Administration desired and/or extensive relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Nationally certified through Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA); or The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in sterile processing preferably in OR
