Schedule:
- Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
- 7.5-hour shifts, Monday – Friday (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of PET and the clinical supervision of the reading physician, the PET/CT Technologist will perform PET imaging on patients of all ages to assist in diagnosing medical conditions. The technologist will ensure adherence to all safety regulations, hospital policies, and radiation safety protocols while providing high-quality imaging.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to laws, regulations, and policies governing nuclear medicine practices.
- Ensure compliance with hospital, Division of Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Safety, and NYS DOH Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection policies.
- Follow radiation safety guidelines, including Model Rules for Safe Use of Radioactive Material (e.g., no eating, drinking, or applying cosmetics in imaging areas).
- Perform PET/CT imaging procedures based on Division Standards of Practice and Protocols.
- Review procedure requests, protocol sheets, patient history, and screening information to ensure accurate Radiology Department Final Checks.
- Ensure pre-procedural preparations (e.g., fasting, hydration, glucose levels, medication restrictions) are completed.
- Maintain current Permits to Practice and required certifications.
- Accurately document radiopharmaceutical doses in NMIS and Siemens system, providing patients with Dose Exposure Cards.
- Administer contrast agents and/or radiopharmaceuticals under Radiologist guidance.
- Perform quality checks on imaging equipment, troubleshoot issues, and initiate service calls when necessary.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, ensuring all radio pharmacy delivery cases are properly handled.
- Transfer and archive images to PACS, MIM systems, and SMS clinical server (Syngo).
- Assist in ordering and stocking necessary supplies for the department.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, quality assurance protocols, and infection control measures.
- Follow imaging protocol guidelines, including timing post-radiopharmaceutical administration and acquiring additional views as necessary.
- Complete necessary administrative tasks and additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Ability to start peripheral IV lines and perform injections (manual unit doses and Medrad Intego).
- Strong proficiency in operating PET/CT cameras, PACS, RIS, and imaging processing workstations.
- Experience with Axial Fusion processing, Myeloma Kidney Standard Cut, and Coronal Cut.
- Capable of conducting PET camera quality assurance (X-ray, PET, and monthly constancy tests).
- Ability to perform QC on dose calibrators (Intego, AtomLab 500) and wipe counters.
- Must function effectively in a team-oriented environment, including training personnel.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility in scheduling, with the potential to work extended hours if needed.
Education & Certifications:
Required Education:
- Completion of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology Program.
Required Certifications & Licenses:
- Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMT) OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) – Nuclear Medicine (N).
- Active New York State Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist License (Diagnostic with Injection Registered).
- ARRT – Computed Tomography (CT) certification for performing diagnostic CT and PET-CT fusion imaging.
- Active Nuclear Medicine, CT licenses, and BLS certification.
- Continued education to maintain technical competency.
