HVAC Mechanic (Installation/Service/repair)
Summary -Works independently in a 'zone' reporting directly to a supervisor. May guide and instruct other staff in the performance of a wide range of refrigeration and air conditioning duties required for all facilities. Provides a wide range of highly skilled refrigeration, air conditioning, and mechanical duties required for the installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of all University facilities.
May guide and instruct craft trainees. May perform any duties of the group. May be assigned to perform general trade duties in other trade areas.
Job Duties:
- Primarily responsible for the performance of such refrigeration and air conditioning duties as the assembly, installation, and repair of a variety of equipment, including condensers, controls, fan, motors, compressors, pipes, etc.
- May fabricate sheet metal and/or aluminum ductwork and replace filters.
- Cleans and lubricates equipment.
- Requisitions additional materials and parts.
- Installs piping directly associated with HVAC equipment.
- Locates power source and may install wiring and/or insulate shells and cabinets of systems.
- Uses a variety of testing devices and tools.
- Cleans shop and work areas.
- Detects faulty operation of equipment; reports questionable conditions to supervisor; issues work orders to supervisors as necessary.
- Provides guidance and instruction to craft trainees.
