POSITION SUMMARY
This position reports to the TCP Project Supervisor and requires prompt responsiveness and a high attention to detail. The TCP Design Lead will organize, review, coordinate and participate in the plan assignment and plan review duties of the TCP team; to provide expertise in traffic control design, workload prioritization, and the quality control process; ensure work quality and adherence to department standards and established policies and procedures and to perform the more complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position is distinguished from the TCP Designer in that the incumbent is responsible for the TCP plan assignment and review process including training and quality control. Acts as the project lead for TCP’s and coordinates inter-departmental functions for workflow efficiencies.Work is judged primarily on overall results with latitude in determining work methods and assignment requirements. Work may require the development of recommendations consistent with directives, policies and procedures.
POSITION DUTIES:
- As a TCP Design Lead, you will be responsible for both production and quality control, ensuring that work is created and reviewed in alignment with departmental needs. This role involves developing plans and overseeing team performance to maintain quality standards. You will collaborate with team members to identify priorities, adjust workflows as necessary, and provide guidance to ensure efficient operations. Your ability to balance hands-on production tasks with effective oversight will be crucial in supporting the department’s objectives and driving successful outcomes.
- Participate in the assignment and preparation of detailed traffic control plans, including signage, markings, and temporary traffic control devices.
- Review and revise traffic control plans to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant industry and departmental standards
- Collaborate with team of TCP reviewers ensuring that all standards are cohesive and clearly communicated to the design team
- Apply and maintain department TCP standards
- Understand and comply with all billing requirements and assign accurate billing codes to completed plans
- Assist the TCP admin, estimating team and project management team with TCP quotes and plan ETA’s as necessary
- Responsible for applying department standards in a consistent manner
- Responsible for ensuring designer performance metrics are tracked in a consistent manner
- Responsible for meeting team deadlines
- Perform related duties as required
- 5+ years experience creating TCP’s in California
- B.S. Civil Engineering from accredited university
- Registered Civil Engineer or Traffic Engineer
- Engineer-in-Training Certificate
