Project Manager (Temporary-Grant Funded)

Overview:

This is a temporary, capital project-funded position for approximately three to five years or until the ending of the project.

This is a provisional appointment.

Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):

Under the direction of the Commissioner and his/her designee, performs work of moderate difficulty in the department's Design & Construction Division in the planning, management, and review of design and development projects and performs related work as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Development of capital projects and monitors the design and construction of open space, park, and playground projects by outside contractors (schematic design, design development, construction documents, contractor selection, construction monitoring, and project evaluation).
  • Produces finished drawings for design and detailing of park and playground improvements such as, but not limited to site improvements, paving, drainage, site structures, play equipment and landscaping.
  • Assists in the planning of development programs, the formation of departmental design standards, and the evaluation of development and maintenance programs.
  • Provides site support for parks and playgrounds, including writing grants and proposals, producing and overseeing maintenance contracts, repairs and improvements, and play lot audits.
  • Organizes and participates in inter-agency, interest groups, and community/public meetings to obtain/promote approvals and consensus for development programs.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have (a) at least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paid professional experience in open space parks and playground development involving site analysis, design, drafting, construction documents, cost estimating, and construction supervision in public or business administration of which (b) at least two (2) years must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity or any equivalent of such experience and substitutions as determined by the Division of Personnel Administration.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred and may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience. No Substitutions will be allowed for the (b) experience.
  • Strong writing skills are preferred.
  • Landscape architect preferred.
  • Must have and maintain a current MA driver's license.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.

This is a temporary, capital project-funded position for approximately three to five years or until the ending of the project.

Must be able to work any assigned shift/any assigned location.
