MRSEC Grants Manager & Center Coordinator

Overview:

Working as the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) Grants Manager & Center Coordinator, and under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Princeton Center of Complex Materials (PCCM), the incumbent manages all aspects of operations and finances of the NSF-MRSEC Grant, including supporting the education and outreach programs working with the PCCM Education Outreach Coordinator, and acts as the Center Coordinator for PCCM.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for all aspects of operations and finances of PCCM NSF-MRSEC Grant Management:

  • Prepare all the budgets & justification, tracking and forecasting of expenditures for all the accounts for 30+ PI supported by the NSF-MRSEC,
  • Entry into Labor Accounting and certification of salary and wages,
  • All equipment purchases,
  • Coordinate submission of grant and changes of budget with sponsor research office,
  • Gather and prepare financial information for annual report,
  • Assist with preparation for symposia and conferences supported by the Center,
  • Support the education and outreach program working with PCCM Education Outreach Coordinator,
  • Process necessary paperwork for appointments and reappointments (Post Docs, visiting collaborators etc.) through Dean of Faculty's Office.

Coordinate calls and review for Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRG) Proposal and Seed Proposals:

  • Coordinate calls for Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRG) Proposal and Seed Proposals from Princeton faculty working in field of materials field in response to either new proposal call for MRSEC or for continued support of new research as required by the NSF-MRSEC grant.
  • Thereafter, coordinate the review of all IRG and Seed Proposals either with external or internal reviewers.

Coordinate activities of both education and industrial coordinators with the NSF requirement:

  • These include not only providing support to these coordinators but ensuring that their activities cover what has been proposed as part of the NSF Center grant.

Coordinate reviews (i) by NSF panel, and (ii) with External Advisory Committee with the Director for all aspects of the Center:

The review by NSF panel takes place every 2 years,
  • The review with External Advisory Committee takes place every 18 months,
  • These activities go beyond making travel arrangements for the visitors and include the following:
  • organizing rehearsal for the Center members in anticipation of the review,
  • organizing poster sessions for the students and postdoc participating in the review,
  • coordinate with the Director the receipt of the review from the Committee, and
  • communicate and execute the response with IRG leaderships and education and industrial outreach coordinators.

Coordinate preparation of the NSF annual report:

  • Together with Director's assistant, obtain all the needed research information from the PIs for the preparation of annual report to the NSF.
  • This is not only obtaining all the financial information but obtaining all the research related information, such as publications (required by the NSF), for the director to successfully and accurately report on the Center output.

Other Tasks:

  • Directly communicate with NSF program monitors to provide on short notice statistics on participation or research outcomes in addition to the annual report.
  • Coordinate the PCCM annual summer school that has a participation of more than 100 graduate students and tops 100K views on our PCCM’s youtube channel.
  • Supervise administrative staffs, hourly and part-time, for support of the PCCM summer research for undergraduate program (REU).
  • Serve as a liaison between Center and Central Administrative Offices, such as, Controllers office, Treasurer's office, Provost's office, ORPA, Human Resources, Dean of Faculty, and the Graduate Office.
  • Work with Sponsored Research Accounting to respond to requests to from internal and external auditors
  • Other special projects as assigned by the Director of PCCM.

Qualifications:

Essential
  • Bachelor's degree and/ or equivalent 5+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of grant proposal process and grant administration required; knowledge of financial analysis and projection, accounting processes and budgeting is required.
  • Knowledge of government sponsors guidelines required.

  • The successful candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, demonstrate initiative, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills
