This individual will be pivotal in leading safety initiatives and ensuring our plant operations meet the highest standards of workplace safety and compliance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement safety programs: Create and maintain comprehensive safety programs that comply with OSHA, state regulations, and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections: Monitor plant operations and conduct audits to ensure all safety protocols are being followed. Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Safety training and education: Provide ongoing safety training to plant employees, including new hire orientation, emergency response drills, and specific job-related safety programs.
  • Incident investigation and reporting: Lead the investigation of safety incidents or accidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to avoid future occurrences.
  • Risk assessment and hazard analysis: Conduct risk assessments for plant equipment, processes, and work environments. Develop strategies to mitigate risks and improve safety outcomes.
  • Compliance management: Ensure the plant complies with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and fire safety codes.
  • Safety metrics and reporting: Track and report safety performance, including accident rates, near-misses, and safety improvements. Provide regular updates to senior management.
  • Foster safety culture: Promote safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the plant workforce, encouraging employee participation in safety initiatives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

The Successful Applicant
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in safety management within a manufacturing environment (ingredients or food manufacturing experience is a plus).
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification, and any other relevant safety certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional - CSP) are highly preferred.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, safety regulations, and manufacturing processes. Familiarity with hazard analysis and risk assessment methods.
  • Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Ability to train and engage employees at all levels. Proficiency in safety software and reporting tools.
  • Personal Attributes: Detail-oriented, proactive, and results-driven. Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
