Free People Design Intern - Print & Pattern

Role Summary:

Free People is looking for a Print Design Intern for the Summer of 2025 to support the designers and merchants by providing entry level skills and basic administrative skills. The design intern will complete a variety of tasks to support the design team while working closely with many people within the business, and problem solving both creatively and technically to ensure that we are creating and selling product that represents the unique style of the Free People customer.

The URBN 2025 Summer Internship Program will run from 6/2 through 8/8 at our Home Office in Philadelphia, PA.

Summer Internship Program Application Process:

  1. Apply to one (1) internship posting that best suits your interest & skills. If there is a project component required for the design internship position you are applying for, you will be notified directly by 11/8. If requested to complete a project, it is required that you submit this to be considered for a position.
  2. Complete Video Interview: Candidates selected will receive an email with a link to complete a video Interview. You will have 2 days to complete this portion of the application once the email is received.
  3. Interviews will be scheduled with our internal teams, continuing on a rolling basis.

Applications will close at 5:00pm EST on November 4th 2024.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Complete print artworks and CADS at designers request.
  • Create print repeats and technical placements.
  • Research and create color prints according to the trends and seasonal color palettes.
  • Scan and prepare artwork for design meetings.
  • Ability to sketch or to communicate design ideas via computer program.
  • Contribute and participate in trend meetings for each season, as well as helping research emerging trends and inspiration as they relate to the Free People product.
  • Communicate artwork/color to the vendor using our print software.
  • Provide technical communication and follow up related to print artwork.
  • Facilitate designer or merchant needs for style visualization (CAD).
  • Assist with s/off and yarn dye approvals.
  • Work with design coordinator to prepare artwork files for web pdm.
  • Administrative tasks for the design team such as copying/filing/helping designers with packages/help colorist with colorcards etc.

Role Qualifications:

  • Studies in Textile Design, Surface Design, Graphic Design, Fine Art or Illustration.
  • Experience in print and textile design with a strong foundation of hand drawing/painting and digital rendering.
  • Strong creative and technical skills in Adobe Creative Suite and NedGraphics (preferred).
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to explore creatively using AI platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills with a flexible and positive attitude.
  • Ability to successfully work in a team environment.
