Position Summary:
Under the direction of the department leadership, performs CLIA regulated and clinical contract research testing. Interacts with customers, providing a high level of customer service to resolve customer concerns about sample acceptability and results.Trains and assesses competence of staff members. Has a level of quality and technical competence that allows for completing work in a highly independent and efficient manner, handling complex technical issues and assists in performing final review of results and preparation of complex test interpretations and reports.
Responsibilities:
- Understand and perform to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Perform testing, as scheduled.
- Support sample evaluation and processing, as needed.
- Perform on-call, weekend, and holiday work, as scheduled.
- Perform reagent preparation, as scheduled.
- Support customer inquiries via phone, email, and lab information system (LIS).
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine and advanced maintenance and calibration on equipment.
- May coordinate validation and implementation of new test offerings or new equipment.
- Coordinate reagent ordering, manufacturing, and qualification in conjunction with Team Lead Technologist(s) and leadership, as applicable.
- Evaluate reagent qualification data for acceptability, as delegated.
- Maintain sample integrity and ensure proper identification of all specimens.
- Maintain organization of departmental records, as needed.
- Perform review of complex results, as defined by laboratory.
- Prepare complex test interpretations and reports.
- Release final results to customer.
- Perform competency assessment of staff, as delegated.
- May assist in providing and coordinating education to fellows, residents, students, and visitors to the laboratory.
- Coordinate, support and perform training of staff.
- Prepare and manage proficiency samples in the laboratory.
- Administer annual competency testing program for the laboratory.
- Consult with department leadership to monitor and identify staff competency issues and provide input for staff performance appraisals.
- Assist with managing Controlled Document processes to ensure that Standard Operating Procedures are accurate, compliant, and up to date.
- Assist with development and execution of quality systems in the laboratory (i.e. instrument comparisons, proficiency testing programs, competency process, etc.).
- Participate in regulatory audits, as needed.
- Review daily work for accuracy and recognize and investigate the reason for potential discrepancies and unexpected results, resolving or escalating as appropriate.
- Determine the need to correct results and complete according to internal policies.
- May provide support for transfusion product selection, as applicable.

Qualifications:
Education- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, immunology, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or related field. required
- Associate's Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution. required
- 1-3 years Minimum of one year of pertinent laboratory experience and/or training. required
- Mastery of Technologist duties, responsibilities, and behaviors. required
- Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and other department manuals. required
- Must have basic mathematical aptitude. required
- Ability to apply judgment to written or oral instructions. required
- Ability to organize work to provide productive workflow. required
- Flexibility to work independently and with a team. required
- Must have strong attention to detail. required
