Description
The HIM Operations Manager is responsible for monitoring the overall functions of the HIM Department for the delivery of professional and comprehensive service to customers. Supervise and coordinates the activities of Health Information System operations personnel including the selection, training, and evaluation.Assists with developing and evaluating new and existing policies and procedures to ensure that they are consistent, accurate, complete and in compliance with CMS, SDOH, The Joint Commission and Hospital requirements and guidelines. Develop and update department work-flow standards.
Provide assistance with vision and goals for planning, management, integration, and upgrades of health information systems. Provides ongoing project management for testing work-flow enhancements and training of all systems
This position is onsite in Hollywood, Florida for the first 60 days and will offer a hybrid schedule after that.
Responsibilities:
- Engages in all facets of staff lifecycle (e.g., recruitment, training, motivation, payroll, performance evaluations, and discipline) to ensure quality performance and compliance with laws and regulations
- Ensures that all operations, including patient privacy and medical records management, meet or exceed applicable performance standards, legal, and regulatory requirements
- Exhibits expertise in redesigning processes, conducting efficiency reviews, and managing multifaceted projects to improve operational outcomes
- Provides open, honest communication with all levels of staff, providing clear feedback and promoting effective dialogue
- Prepares, analyzes, and delivers key operational statistics, including but not limited to productivity, quality, and timelines to support decision-making and continuous improvement
- Enthusiastically participates in and supports teamwork through committee efforts, task forces, and/or multi-disciplinary teams as assigned
- Demonstrates flexibility in adapting to participating in activities outside of traditional Monday through Friday schedules as needed, including ability to travel and adapt to varying workloads to ensure departmental goals are met
Qualifications:
Skills Required- Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT and APC/DRG
- Must work well under pressure, ability to manage staff and multiple projects
- Strong problem-solving skills and logical thinking
- Strong organizational skills, careful attention to detail and knowledge of HIM work-flow/processes and data collection
- Excellent written/oral communications with professionals at all levels both internal and external to the organization
- Strong PC skills and experience with health information systems
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Strong knowledge of operational and project management
- Current in state, local, federal, and accreditation compliance regulations and guidelines
- Bachelor’s degree in health information management/health informatics or related field required
- Master’s degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred
- RHIA
- RHIT/RHIA with CCS, CPC or CCDS preferred
- 3 years supervisory/leadership experience
- 3 years of health information management experience
- 1 year experience in coding and clinical documentation improvement
- Experience in performing audits and in leading process improvement efforts
