Position Title: Librarian and Writing Tutor
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Librarian and Writing Tutor will provide strategic leadership for the institutional library and serve as an essential resource for both library and writing support services. This role involves creating a library and tutoring plan that scales with increased domestic and international enrollments, and designing library resources, services, and tutoring that leverage current and emerging technologies.The Librarian and Writing Tutor will also be responsible for integrating information literacy and writing support across courses and providing training for faculty and students. By collaborating closely with administrative staff and faculty, this position will enhance the learning experience to meet program outcomes across the institution.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Library Services:
- Provide expertise in general reference services, research assistance, and course-related instruction.
- Design and deliver instructional seminars, orientations, and tutorials in both undergraduate and graduate subject areas.
- Stay current with developments in information literacy, instructional design, library instruction, and assessment methods.
- Collaborate with faculty on research projects and guide students in developing research skills.
- Develop collections in various formats to support academic programs and create subject web pages and research guides.
- Serve as a liaison to assigned departments and maintain, analyze, and report library statistics.
- Represent NewSchool at campus, local, and national library events, remaining informed on new technologies and participating in library assessments and surveys.
Writing Tutoring Services:
- Provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions to assist students with writing assignments and academic research projects.
- Design and implement writing workshops to address common challenges in academic writing.
- Partner with faculty to identify specific writing needs within their courses and develop tailored writing support resources.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of writing support best practices and integrate these into tutoring and instructional sessions.
- Assess and report on writing support utilization and outcomes to continually improve tutoring services.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in institutional and professional activities, collaborating as part of a dynamic reference, instruction, and tutoring team.
- Work independently and be available for evening and weekend shifts as required.
- Perform additional duties that management may assign as necessary to fulfill the institution’s mission.

TECHNICAL, MANAGERIAL, AND PEOPLE SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interact and work well with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
- Familiarity with database structures, web development for library resources, and various tutoring strategies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in Library Science or a related field.
- Minimum one year of experience in campus-based and online academic library services.
- Prior experience in academic writing tutoring preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
