Our client is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as Assistant Director of their Cultural Division. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to shape and enhance the cultural landscape of one of Florida's most diverse communities.

The Role

The Assistant Director will lead a team focused on communications and community programs, with emphasis on outward-facing initiatives. This is a true second-in-command position, reporting directly to the Division Director and managing a team of at least five staff members.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Program Management
  • Direct the development and implementation of cultural programs that foster artistic expression and community engagement
  • Lead a dynamic team responsible for communications and public programs, managing at least five staff members
  • Oversee the planning and execution of initiatives that enhance access to arts and culture across diverse communities
  • Develop innovative strategies to expand cultural participation and arts education opportunities
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness using data-driven insights to guide continuous improvement
Community & Arts Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with artists, cultural organizations, and community stakeholders
  • Collaborate with local arts organizations to develop and support cultural initiatives
  • Participate in the administration of grant programs supporting artists and cultural organizations
  • Create opportunities for artistic expression and cultural exchange across diverse communities
  • Represent the Division at cultural events, community gatherings, and professional conferences
  • Act as a liaison between the cultural community and government administration
Communications & Public Relations
  • Direct the Division's comprehensive communications strategy across multiple platforms
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of high-quality content that promotes cultural programs and initiatives
  • Manage the Division's public presence and messaging to enhance community awareness and participation
  • Develop strategies to highlight the impact of arts and culture on community development
  • Lead initiatives to increase visibility of cultural programs across diverse communities
Administrative Leadership
  • Manage budgetary planning and financial oversight for assigned programs and initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with government policies and procedures while maintaining program effectiveness
  • Contribute to strategic planning and policy development for the Division
  • Serve as Acting Director when needed, providing continuity of leadership
  • Collaborate with other government departments to integrate cultural considerations into broader community initiatives
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices to inform program development and implementation
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in arts administration, business, fine/performing arts, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in cultural, nonprofit, government, or community-focused organization
  • Strong administrative and systems experience
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated success in managing community-based programs
  • Experience with data-driven decision making and program evaluation
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Submittable, or Kronos
  • Spanish language proficiency
  • Grant management experience
  • Background in cultural programming or arts administration
  • Experience working in government or nonprofit sector

Benefits
  • Salary Range: $100k - $150k
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision

Location & Work Environment
  • On-site position in South Florida
  • Travel within the region required (approximately 10-15%)
  • Some evening and weekend work required for community events
