Salary: $40 per hour PT/$72K FT; Part-time to possible FT position

The 163^rd Street Improvement Council’s mission is the provision of resources to improve individuals’ quality of life. We offer Strength Support, and Stability, not only for those on the journey from homelessness to fully appropriate housing, but to a complete continuum of humanity.

From pre-natal care, through end of life planning; for individuals who are low-income, formerly homeless, veterans, recently released from incarceration, LGBTQ; or with special physical, cognitive, or developmental needs, the 163^rd Street Improvement Council offers resources, referrals, and direct services to help.

Whenever possible, we provide direct assistance, but we also rely on cooperative measures, advocacy, and education. Our goal is to spur the transformative process through access to services, treatment, education, advocacy, and training so that, individually and collectively, all people will enjoy fuller and more abundant lives.

Purpose of Role: To monitor, protect, and improve an organization's finances.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Finance Activities and Project Management: Lead project management for assigned Finance Department projects, such as lead preparation of annual reports for contracts, organize and lead weekly calls with finance and other agency staff to monitor or understand financial activities, and lead development of new or improved financial processes.
  • Financial reporting: Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, and forecasts.
  • Accounting: Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger and the monthly and year-end closing process.
  • Financial analysis: Analyze budgetary trends to identify opportunities for savings, additional revenue and financial risks.
  • Financial planning: Create strategic business plans based on financial forecasts and the company's status. Plan and develop improvements in financial policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Financial Compliance: Ensure that legal requirements are met and that the organization complies with fiscal activities (GAAP accounting standards, fiscal controls, audit requirements, contracts, among others).
  • Risk management: Identify risks and recommend and secure insurance policies to protect against potential losses.
  • Staff management: Supervise, coach and train assigned employees who do financial reporting and budgeting work.
  • Performs all other duties as requested by managerial staff and other duties as required.

Competencies and Skills Requirement:

Accounting Manager has strong analytical skills, negotiation skills, and the ability to develop strong working relationships. They also need to have good communication skills, both written and verbal, and a keen eye for detail.

Accounting Manager to have strong working knowledge of MicroSoft Excel, GAAP accounting knowledge, and experience user of general ledger tracking tools such as: Quickbooks, Sage/Intact, FundEZ, or other similar systems or software. It is expected that the Finance Manager will know how to create and update ledger records, but this work is only on an as-needed basis when the primary accountants have either made errors or are not available to conduct this activity.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Combined education and years of prior experience may be compensated for the bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years of account management experience
  • Knowledge of MicroSoft Excel, GAAP accounting knowledge, and experience user of general ledger tracking tools such as: Quickbooks, Sage/Intact, FundEZ, or other similar systems or software.

Specific Requirements:

This is a part-time position. Staff may be asked to adjust their work schedule depending on the operational needs of the site.

Working Environment: This position will be held in a professional office. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This position is subject to travel.
