Controls Engineer

A Controls Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Alpharetta, GA area. This role designs and maintains control systems for HMI applications, requiring technical skills in programming, troubleshooting, and collaboration.

salary: $26.79 - 37.50 per hour
work hours: 8am to 5pm

responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating and following electrical design schedules from concept to system completion.
  • Test, evaluate, modify, and calibrate products and instruments.
  • Analyze plant processes and design improvements.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and process issues.
  • Perform technical calculations supporting design, including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards, and motor controls.
  • Ensure all safety objectives and legal requirements are met.

Typical Task Breakdown:

  • Design, modify, develop, and implement software programming for generator control switchgear HMI applications.
  • Configure, program, and test HMI hardware.
  • Collaborate with Power System Engineers to validate HMI programming.
  • Provide remote and field support for HMI installations and troubleshooting.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science plus 1-3 years of experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Will consider a 2-year degree with 4+ years of experience.
  • Relevant internships may be considered.

Technical Skills (Required Software Experience):

  • HMI software experience in Factory Talk, RSView, Vijeo, Crimson, Kepware, EcoStruxure Machine Scada Expert.

Desired Programming Experience:

  • VBA Scripting, Javascript, HTML, C++, FBD, SQL, Python.
