Position:

The Radiation Laboratory Technician will provide support in NorthStar’s radiologic science laboratories within the Science Department. Responsibilities will include maintenance and support of laboratory controls, maintenance and calibration of equipment, manifestation and disposal of radioactive and chemical material, preparation of laboratory solutions, assistance with product development/production, and general laboratory maintenance.

The Radiation Laboratory Technician II will independently perform these responsibilities. This role will also assist in development, verification, and validation of current and/or new and existing radiopharmaceutical products/medical devices.

Physical demands may include, but not be limited to, specific vision abilities including near vision/acuity and visual color discrimination.

The work environment may include exposure to a heated/air-conditioned indoor office / manufacturing / cleanroom setting with adequate ventilation and lighting and outdoor environments with varying temperatures. The noise level may vary from quiet to loud.
Employees must be willing and able to wear various types of PPE, including, but not limited to, respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing, as required by the job to ensure safety in potentially hazardous conditions. Specific cleanroom requirements include employees needing to inform leadership about any health condition that may have an adverse effect on products, as well as compliance with gowning protocols.

This means all jewelry, including physically attached items, must not interfere with the effectiveness of personal protective equipment. In addition, all cosmetics, fragranced products (perfumes, aftershave, etc.), and nail products are prohibited, including clear nail polish, artificial nails, and nail extenders.

The company is a radiopharmaceutical manufacturer and radiation may be present in manufacturing and laboratory areas. Employees may be required to be monitored using company provided dosimetry and bioassay testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and support specific laboratory controls involved with equipment calibration, radiologic assays, pharmaceutical compounding, solution preparation, inventory control, chromatography reagent preparation, and quality control testing.
  • With appropriate training, perform routine and non-routine experiments and/or analyses following NorthStar procedures and guidelines. Ensure data is collected and documented according to good documentation practices.
  • Perform tasks as needed to support product development. This may include solution preparation, equipment checks, and documentation preparation.
  • Understand and execute the processes specific to all radioactive substances that are used in the laboratory including, but not limited, waste management, and documentation/filing.
  • Collaborate on documents related to equipment, consumables and processes as assigned.
  • Maintain chemical waste management including: storage, manifestation, and disposal in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain supplies and manage inventory, organization and cleanliness within the laboratory space.
  • Identify risks, issues, and opportunities for process improvements in the radiation laboratory.
  • Assist in safety, chemical and radiological laboratory audits as necessary.

The Radiation Laboratory Technician II will have additional responsibilities, including:

  • Manage specific laboratory controls.
  • Independently perform tasks as needed to support product development.
  • Author documents related to qualification of equipment, consumables, and processes as assigned.
  • Understand and execute DOT check in/check out process.
  • Perform training for laboratory access, use of instruments and ALARA best practices.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in a related science discipline or related medical field or completion of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology educational program required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Previous experience in a nuclear pharmacy, nuclear medicine department, laboratory setting, or cGMP environment preferred.

Radiation Laboratory Technician

Knowledge of ALARA principles preferred.

Radiation Laboratory Technician II

Two (2) or more years of experience handling radioactive materials and operating radiation detection equipment. Knowledge of ALARA principles required.
