Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) works with clients on a global scale designing solutions for renewable energy (solar/wind/battery storage), Generation Interconnection, Transmission Planning, Distribution Planning, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and Smart Grids.

How you can make an impact:
The Power Systems Engineer Intern – will perform projects/tasks such as network-wide steady-state and short-circuit studies as well as contribute to process improvement efforts, including development of Python scripts. This position will report to an experienced Transmission Manager and be exposed to exciting projects building valuable industry knowledge.Through this opportunity, the intern will gain experience with the Texas and Eastern Interconnection power systems.
- Assist the electrification team in technical writing by providing clear and concise documentation of technical processes.
- Assist in research for electrification proposals (electric vehicles, building electrification, demand response, energy efficiency).
- Support the team by assisting in the preparation of quarterly Department of Energy grant reports, collecting data, data analysis, modelling, and writing.
- Conduct research and analysis to assess the electric vehicle impact to the infrastructure and forecast trends in the future.
- Perform distribution power flow analysis.
- Understand the infrastructure requirements associated with increased electrification and forecast the grid impact.
- Support customer engagement and recruitment activities for electrification utility programs.
Qualifications:
Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:
- Actively pursuing a degree bachelor's or graduate degree during the time of the internship in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university.
- Experience with grid edge / customer sited energy technologies a plus (smart thermostats, controllable water heaters, lighting controls, building management systems, etc.).
- Experience with distribution modelling tools a plus (ETAP, WindMIL, CYME, etc.)
- Completion of, or current enrollment in, power systems fundamentals class(es) (strongly preferred)
- Location of Austin, TX with a willingness to a hybrid work schedule is preferred, but not limited to Austin candidates.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
