SUMMARY

Plans and organizes OCOM’s Office of Behavioral Health programs and activities; ensures assigned functions fulfill institutional goals and objectives. The Office of Behavioral Health is under the organizational umbrella of the Office of Student Services.

The Mental Health Counselor primarily provides clinical services within the Department of Behavioral Health at Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine (OCOM). The Mental Health Counselor provides psychosocial support and direct clinical services for OCOM medical students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the OCOM Office of Behavioral Health.
  • Supports the OCOM-approved policies and ensures that they are adhered to.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, university, college, and other outside agency rules and regulations.
  • Provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychosocial/behavioral health issues for OCOM students.
  • Provides on-call services to OCOM administration
  • Provides crisis intervention for OCOM students during regular operating hours.
  • Appropriately refers clients to community resources if needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of current literature related to mental health and behavioral medicine.
  • Attends professional conferences and is appropriately involved in state and/or national behavioral health and/or behavioral medicine meetings.
  • Engages in continuing education as required to maintain active clinical licensure
  • Develops expertise with the EMR system for scheduling and confidentiality of student records.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of student records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Works collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Student Services on the Behavioral Health budget
  • Submits monthly utilization reports to the Associate Dean for Student Services.
  • Assists in accreditation functions, including document creation, data collection, data entry, education of staff on accreditation, and other accreditation-related functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology or related field, and FL clinical licensure are required.
  • Candidates with a Clinical/Counseling Psychology degree must come from an APA-accredited program.
  • PhD or EdD preferred.
  • Preferred experience in higher education, health sciences
  • A team player who values cooperation, mutual support, and team cohesion
  • Experience providing counseling services to higher education and/or graduate-level students. Additionally, exposure to and experience with medical culture is preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be local to the Central Florida area
