Job Description:

  • The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a critical role in providing high-quality, patient-centered care. This 28-bed unit serves a diverse patient population, including general and vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma patients, and it functions as the stroke unit for the hospital. Nurses in this role will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that offers ample opportunities for learning and professional growth, regardless of experience level.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, patient-centered care in accordance with hospital policies and nursing standards.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans based on patient needs and clinical pathways.
  • Deliver care to a diverse patient population with medical, surgical, trauma, and stroke care needs.
  • Ensure safety and quality of care by following evidence-based practices and maintaining holistic patient care approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with an Interdisciplinary Care Team, which includes physicians, nursing staff, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Utilize strong communication skills to ensure effective collaboration and coordination of care for positive patient outcomes.
  • Participate actively in patient education to ensure that patients and their families understand post-discharge instructions and care.
  • Adhere to clinical pathways and hospital protocols to ensure consistency and quality in care delivery.
  • Manage critical care scenarios effectively and remain calm under pressure.
  • Serve as an advocate for patients by addressing their physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
  • Be actively involved in the unit's Unit Based Council (Shared Governance), promoting a positive work environment and teamwork.
  • Support and mentor new team members during their orientation, fostering an environment of learning and growth.
  • Promote a culture of safety, positivity, and accountability within the unit.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital and unit-specific policies, including the 3-strike attendance policy. Any nurse who is absent from a scheduled shift or arrives more than 20 minutes late for 3 shifts will face immediate termination unless extenuating circumstances (e.g., communicable disease, hospitalization) are substantiated with evidence and reviewed favorably.
  • Utilize the hospital's electronic medical records system to document care in an accurate and timely manner.

Qualifications:

Licensure:

  • Valid RN license for the state of Michigan.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a medical-surgical unit preferred but not required.
  • New graduates with a strong desire to learn and grow are encouraged to apply.

Skills:

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to manage multiple patients and priorities simultaneously.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in high-stress situations.
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred.
