Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 5,400 TK-College students across 29 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW

The ELD Instructor is responsible for delivering an effective class that promotes the English language development of students through teaching, facilitation and coordination. This role will provide you with valuable professional development and personal growth opportunities as you will have the chance to work with different grade bands (9th-12th) This role is for those who are available to work 5 days a week during the school year at Redwood City Clubhouse in Redwood City, CA and reports to the Academic Director.

Drawing upon best practices in youth development, you will guide students to build academic and life skills in a meaningful and fun context.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage various program spaces with approximately 20 students per 1 staff.
  • Provide academic mentoring and homework assistance.
  • Lead students through guided enrichment and/or community building activities.
  • Create and adapt lesson plans for delivering an English language development class of approximately 15 students.
  • Take on a caseload of approximately 15 students and provide them with mentoring services such as one-on-one check-ins, parent check-ins, and teacher connection, as part of the Scholar Success Program.
  • Communicate academic progress made as well as areas for improvement to other staff and parents.
  • Direct students towards and guide them in how to navigate additional resources as supplemental learning tools in English.
  • Look for opportunities to recruit members to increase enrollment and attendance numbers.
  • Conduct life skills and team-building activities.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, and BGCP leadership.
  • Maintain a positive, safe, productive work environment.
  • Participate in supporting special events and field trips.
  • Attend training and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Commitment to BGCP’s mission and vision and working with 9th - 12th grade youth.
  • Familiarity working with students who attend Title 1 schools.
  • Experience building relationships with diverse youth communities and constituents.
  • Ability to motivate through positive reinforcement.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Flexible in navigating a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred one year of experience working with 9th - 12th grade youth.
  • Spanish fluency is required.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squating, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.

Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 80% walking & standing. Work environment noise level is usually moderate but can be noisy at times. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

WORK SCHEDULE
  • Academic Calendar Schedule for 2024 - 2025 School Year
  • 2:30 pm - 8:00 pm (20 - 29 hours/week, 4-5 days/week)
  • Occasional shifted schedule to support students in the classrooms in the mornings
  • Occasional Saturdays
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Employment Status: Part Time-Non Exempt
  • Pay Range: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)

  • BGCP will cover all onboarding process requirements
  • Complete LiveScan and Checkr background check
  • Undergo a TB test
  • Participate in mandatory onboarding training sessions
