UI Health and the UIC College of Pharmacy are seeking a highly motivated pharmacist for a rewarding career in medication safety and quality. Medication Safety and Quality Responsibilities include: Provide direction for the safety of the organizations medication use system.

Coordinate medication system monitoring program for the ordering, distribution, administration and monitoring of medications at UI Health. Includes indicator development, auditing, evaluation, and feedback; process improvement recommendations; and staff education initiatives.

Designs, implements and monitors the effectiveness of process improvements related to the medication use process.
Review medication error/adverse drug event literature to proactively address potential issues in the organization.
Review voluntary error reports to identify potential system improvements and educational needs.
Participate in or lead an root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), or other structured safety analysis.
Ensure the development of new or revision of existing medication-related policy and procedures, clinical care guidelines and protocols when warranted.
Provide medication safety information for inclusion in newsletters and other educational efforts for staff education.
Provide medication safety in-services to UI Health staff.
Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to design and update workflows related to the medication use process.
Participate in departmental and system-wide compliance activities. When necessary, work with the Medication Safety Officer and other leaders to develop action plans in response to compliance risks.
Promote situational awareness of medication safety risks and support adherence to safe workflow expectations across the medication use process.
Oversee the development/assessment of a pharmacy quality program that monitors and ensures the integrity and safety of the services provided by the department.
Assimilate the mission statement, goals, and objectives of the department into the departmental quality program.
Assess departmental compliance with quality indicators through review of audits performed on these indicators and collaborate with staff and managers to address significant non-compliance.
Participate in audit and indicator periodic review and revise, add and delete audits or indicators based on the needs of the department.

Develop, generate, share and analyze reports from available data sources to facilitate quality improvement activities related to the medication use process.

The academic responsibilities of the clinical faculty member (Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) include: Provision of didactic lectures.

Precepting entry level Doctor of Pharmacy students, PGY1 residents and PGY2 residents.
Scholarly activities, including presentations and publications.

Serving as a mentor for pharmacy resident seminars, research, and/or quality improvement projects.

Required Qualifications: PharmD from an ACPE accredited Doctor of Pharmacy Program.

Illinois pharmacist license as a Registered Pharmacist or eligibility for an Illinois license by the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is required upon employment.
Must possess knowledge and skills such that they qualify for a non-tenured clinical faculty position within the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the UIC College of Pharmacy.

Completion of PGY1 residency and 3 years of clinical or operational experience OR PGY2 Specialty residency, Fellowship, OR 5 years of experience as necessary for the specialty area.

Preferred Qualifications: Completion of PGY1 Residency

Experience with Epic EHR

Administrative experience related to medication safety and/or experience with one or more of the following high-risk areas: Anticoagulation

Oncology/Chemotherapy
Critical Care
Sterile compounding

Pediatrics

Demonstrated experience in: Didactic teaching

Preceptor for pharmacy students and residents
