PathWays has served individuals in Sullivan and Lower Grafton counties for over 50 years. One of our programs, Participant Directed and Managed Services (PDMS for short!) is unique in its design as the family and PathWays both serve in supervisory capacities. The family oversees the day-to-day activities, schedule, etc. while PathWays completes the hiring process, processes payroll, reviews all policies, etc. Mentors are hired and generally work with one individual and one family which provides the opportunity to get to know and understand the individual being supported. Though we have several Mentor positions open, we describe one that we hope to fill ASAP below:

We have a family seeking a compassionate and responsible individual to join them as an after-school companion for a 13-year-old boy in West Lebanon, NH. Their son is developmentally and physically disabled, and he possesses a bright spirit, a curious mind, and a love for engaging with others.

We are seeking someone who can provide companionship, support his growth and development, and create a positive and enjoyable atmosphere after school.

Part-Time: 13 hrs/week, Monday-Friday after school between 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM with flexibility and potential for additional hours during school breaks.

Responsibilities:

  • Spend quality time with their son, engaging in activities he enjoys and supporting his daily routines.
  • Foster a safe, positive, and supportive environment that promotes his well-being and development.
  • Collaborate with the family and their son’s team to ensure consistent and effective care.

Qualifications:

  • Compassion and Patience: You have a genuine understanding and empathy for working with individuals with special needs.
  • Experience: You have prior experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred, though a willingness to learn and connect is most important.
  • Reliability and Responsibility: You are punctual, dependable, and take your role seriously.
  • Engaging and Positive: You are able to connect with their son on his level, creating a fun and supportive atmosphere.
  • Adaptable and Creative: You are flexible and can adjust to their son’s needs and interests, finding new ways to engage and interact.
  • Respectful and Patient: You understand the importance of building trust and rapport with their son, respecting his individuality and fostering his independence.

In addition, all positions require:

  • Proof of Eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Passing a criminal background, MVR and BEAS check, OIG Exclusion List check, and DCYF check
  • Valid Driver’s License and Proof of valid auto insurance
  • Must be 18 years of age or older per NH state regulations
  • Proof of High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Passing a TB test
