Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer Job Description

SAKUU, an emerging additive manufacturing (AM) technology company based in the San Jose Bay Area, is developing a proprietary high-volume 3D printing technology for building high-performing dry electrodes.

We seek a highly skilled and motivated process engineer to support the process and equipment development. The process engineer will be part of highly motivated and collaborative engineers to develop proprietary high-volume 3D printing and additive manufacturing technology to fabricate high-performance electrodes.

In addition, there will be ample opportunity to learn new experimental skills and participate in cutting-edge hardware design and materials research. This position is full-time and based in San Jose, CA.

To support our mission to reimagine the manufacturing process, you will join our Additive Manufacturing team to craft the operational procedures for developing the state-of-the-art additive manufacturing platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop novel electrode printing techniques and manufacturing equipment aligned with product and design goals
  • Manage and maintain project schedules for critical component development, ensuring alignment with product priorities
  • Participate in regular project meetings, provide technical insights, and present summary reports
  • Identify and validate suitable equipment and processes to meet all design and operational requirements
  • Perform qualification and validation of manufacturing equipment, including DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ
  • Design and execute structured experimental plans at varying scales using statistical and engineering methodologies, with thorough reporting
  • Provide expert-level support to project teams by troubleshooting complex mechanical and production challenges, resolving manufacturing issues, and improving efficiency
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, including hazardous chemical handling and compliance with company policies and regulatory standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, or material engineering. MS degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering, design for manufacturability, and assembly experience
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with additive manufacturing techniques such as binder jetting, powder bed fusion, material handling, equipment development, or related field
  • Interest in advanced technologies and an ongoing desire to learn
  • Must be analytical and thorough, and take initiative
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and a team player with great verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A hands-on problem solver
  • Knowledge of working with powder handling and characterization, preferably in a production environment
  • Ability to utilize data-driven approaches in process improvement activities
  • Previous experience as a battery process engineer is highly desired
  • Previous experience in developing and scaling up processes for industrial applications
  • Six Sigma training and certification is a plus
