The Multimodality Radiologic Technologist assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating imaging equipment in order to obtain diagnostic images. The Multimodality Radiologic Technologists must work 75% in a primary modality as assigned and 25% in a secondary modality

Responsibilities:

For all medical imaging technologists and as applicable by site:

Safety
  • Corroborates patient’s identification and clinical history with procedure and ensures information is documented and made available for use by a licensed practitioner.
  • Verifies informed consent for applicable procedures.
  • Performs screening processes for medication reconciliation and allergy confirmation.
  • Identifies and responds to emergency situations.
  • Performs on-going quality assurance activities.
  • Applies the principles of safety including the principles of proper body mechanics and infection control precautions.
  • Complies with organization and department policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Follows Novant Health First Do No Harm behavior.
Imaging
  • Receives, relays, and documents verbal, written, and electronic orders.
  • Prepares patient for procedure and assumes responsibility for patient needs during procedures.
  • Demonstrates understanding of human anatomy, pathology, physiology, and medical terminology. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient’s age, condition, and abilities.
  • Follows protocols established by licensed practitioner and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety.
  • Identifies, prepares, and administers medications, including contrast media, as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Performs venipuncture as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for quality and ensures proper recording of accurate patient identification and anatomical laterality.
  • Ensures complete examination is performed following protocol.
  • Ensures timely review and transfer of images and pertinent clinical information to a licensed practitioner.
  • Properly operates electronic medical record (EMR), radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
Patient Care
  • Provides care for patients’ needs.
  • Ensures pre-procedural preparation has been completed, including verifying laboratory values to include pregnancy status, according to established protocols.
  • Requests prior outside images when applicable.
  • Performs point-of-care laboratory testing according to established protocols.
Communication
  • Acts with honesty and integrity with team members and customers, showing and speaking with respect for the rights of others, human dignity, and diversity in support of Novant Health’s mission, vision, values, people, and promise.
  • Communicates with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient's ability to understand.
  • Explains the examination and associated procedures to the patient and responds to patient questions and concerns.
  • Refers specific diagnostic, treatment, or prognosis questions to the appropriate licensed practitioner.
  • Utilizes Novant Health telephone etiquette.
  • Promotes a cooperative work environment by utilizing communications skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building.
  • Adheres to Novant Health Service Standards in providing a remarkable patient experience.
  • Exhibits and promotes a professional image in all aspects of the job.
Compliance
  • Assists in maintaining medical records adhering to respecting confidentiality law and established protocols.
  • Performs ongoing quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains department specific annual competency checklist.
  • Maintains certification and registration with the appropriate credentialing organization:
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS).
  • Maintains applicable state license.
Professional Development
  • Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
  • Shares knowledge and expertise with colleagues, peers, and all members of the healthcare team.
  • For all Radiologic Technologists and as applicable by site:
  • Applies principles of ALARA to minimize radiation exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Demonstrates current knowledge of federal and state radiation safety laws.
Properly utilizes personnel monitoring devices.
  • Ensures proper equipment performance and schedules maintenance for emergent needs.
  • Properly operates radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment.
  • Independently performs radiographic and non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures, including intraoperative and mobile procedures, as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Assists a licensed practitioner in the performance of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, including intraoperative and mobile procedures.

Qualifications:

Minimum of three years of experience in diagnostic radiology

Certified and registered by ARRT in Radiography – RT(R)

In addition, certified and registered in two or more of the following: CT, MR, Mammography, Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography, Vascular Interventional, Radiography, Cardiac Interventional Radiography Ultrasound, or Nuclear Medicine. Certification and registration may be through the ARRT, ARDMS, or NMTCB

IV Credentialed

Applicable state licensure

Knowledge of procedures and standards for specific modalities based on certifications. Skill in operation of equipment. Certification and registered in additional specialties (not including RT).

Applies advanced skills in area of specialization. Adapts procedures, protocols, techniques and equipment to meet special needs. Ability to network and recruit to gain new talent for the Centers
