Position Summary:
This position involves scheduling and confirming surgeries, coordinating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other departments, and updating and maintaining the operating room schedule. It also includes acting as a liaison between different medical professionals, answering inquiries regarding surgical procedures and scheduling, and ensuring effective communication of any delays or changes.The role requires verifying patient information for accuracy and confidentiality, assisting with necessary documentation, and providing support for post-operative documentation and billing. Additionally, the position includes monitoring surgical supplies, ensuring necessary equipment is available, maintaining a clean and organized operating room, and handling patient inquiries and general administrative duties.

- Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
- Surgery Scheduling and Coordination:
- Schedule and confirm surgeries.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other departments.
- Update and maintain the operating room schedule; communicate changes promptly.
- Communication and Liaison:
- Act as a liaison between surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other departments.
- Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries regarding surgical procedures and scheduling.
- Ensure effective communication of delays or changes in the schedule.
- Patient Information and Documentation:
- Verify patient information for accuracy and confidentiality.
- Assist with consent forms, charts, and other necessary documentation.
- Provide support for post-operative documentation and billing.
- Operating Room and Equipment Management:
- Monitor surgical supplies and ensure necessary equipment is available and prepared.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized operating room environment.
- Work with the surgical team to restock supplies.
- General Administrative Duties:
- Handle patient inquiries regarding surgical procedures and post-operative care.
- Perform general office duties, including filing, faxing, and photocopying documents.
- Six (6) months to one (1) year clerical and scheduling appointments experience in inpatient or outpatient surgery, required. May consider one (1) to two (2) years scheduling or Medical Assistant experience in a surgeon’s office.
- Adequate typing skills, legible handwriting and knowledge of medical terminology, required.
- Experience with computer entry and word processing, required.
Education:
- High School diploma or GED, required.
- Salary/Hourly Wage range based on experience.
