Overview:

The Director of Financial Reporting is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP, and maintaining strong internal controls. Reporting directly to the Vice President-Finance, Controller, this role provides strategic oversight and leadership for all accounting services, including financial reporting, asset management, and financial statement audits.

This position will also drive continuous improvement initiatives and align financial reporting with Presbyterian's long-term goals and healthcare industry standards. The Director plays a critical role in delivering actionable financial insights to support operational and strategic decision-making across the hospital system.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably within the healthcare industry.
  • Public accounting experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and driving process improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Ability to research complex accounting issues and communicate findings.
  • Expertise in financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and process execution.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Compliance:
  • Oversee the preparation, consolidation, and distribution of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and healthcare industry standards.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, consolidation and financial statement preparation.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit process, ensuring timely completion and implementation of recommendations from audit findings.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to grant, foundation and not-for-profit accounting.
  • Operational Leadership
  • Lead the financial reporting function, providing financial transparency and accountability across the organization.
  • Review financial results with other finance and operational leaders, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to optimize financial performance.
  • Implement best practices for financial policies, procedures, and internal controls, ensuring the protection of company assets and alignment with healthcare industry-specific regulations.
  • Oversee the management of all general ledger accounts, including intercompany transactions, cash management, income statement reporting, balance sheet accounts, and reconciliation processes. Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting of financial data across all entities, in compliance with US GAAP and internal policies.
  • Process Improvement & Systems Management
  • Identify and lead initiatives for process improvement, leveraging technology and innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Provide technical GAAP expertise to internal stakeholders, ensuring that all accounting practices adhere to evolving standards.
  • Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations and accounting standards, guiding the organization in adapting to new reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with IT and finance systems teams to optimize financial reporting systems, such as Workday, ensuring seamless integration and real-time financial data visibility.
  • Leadership & Team Management
  • Direct and mentor the hospital, corporate services and foundation accounting teams.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, fostering teamwork and cross-functional collaboration across financial reporting, operating finance, budget and planning, supply chain, payroll and other operational teams.
  • Support leadership in strategic planning and decision-making by providing clear, actionable financial insights and risk assessments.
