Job Summary:
The Material Handler plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of raw materials, additives, and finished products throughout the plant, with a primary focus on the repetitive handling and dumping of 50lb material loads into feeders, hoppers, and storage areas.

This role is essential for maintaining inventory control, supporting production operations, and ensuring the safe handling of materials.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling:

  • Load, unload, and repetitively dump 50lb bags or containers of raw materials (such as resins, pigments, and additives) into feeders, hoppers, and storage areas.
  • Transport and dump materials to production lines or designated storage areas using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment.
  • Assist in the continuous and efficient flow of materials to ensure no production delays.
  • Dump and handle large amounts of material in a safe and organized manner throughout the shift, especially into production feeders and hoppers.

Inventory Management:

  • Regularly monitor inventory levels of raw materials and finished products, and report discrepancies.
  • Assist in stock rotation, ensuring proper storage conditions for all materials, including the accurate dumping and storage of 50lb loads into hoppers and feeders.
  • Work with the warehouse team to perform routine stock counts and assist with material requisitioning.

Production Support:

  • Support production by ensuring that 50lb materials are delivered to production areas and dumped into the appropriate feeders and hoppers without delays.
  • Coordinate with the production department to guarantee that the correct materials are available for production needs.
  • Prepare and stage raw materials for production, ensuring that 50lb bags or containers are efficiently dumped into feeders and hoppers based on production schedules.

Safety Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols, especially while handling and dumping heavy materials, such as 50lb bags, into feeders and hoppers, and ensuring their safe transportation.
  • Maintain material handling equipment in working condition and report any issues to the maintenance team.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while repeatedly handling materials.

Quality Control Support:

  • Inspect materials for defects or damage before transport and report any issues to the quality control team.
  • Ensure that all material batches meet production specifications and quality standards, particularly when dumping or moving raw materials into feeders and hoppers.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Keep accurate records of material movements, inventory levels, and waste, especially related to the repetitive dumping of materials into feeders and hoppers.
  • Assist in preparing reports for management detailing material usage, stock levels, and any discrepancies.

Coordination and Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with other departments, including production, quality control, and warehouse teams, to ensure smooth material handling operations.
  • Report material shortages, quality issues, or production delays to the supervisor or manager promptly.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in material handling or logistics is a plus.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in material handling, warehouse, or manufacturing environments is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks).
  • Basic knowledge of plastic masterbatch materials (resins, pigments, additives) is a plus.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to repetitively lift and dump heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) into feeders, hoppers, and storage areas throughout the shift.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklift).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in varying temperatures based on the plant’s environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to chemicals, dust, and machinery noise.
  • Alternating night and day shifts, with occasional overtime depending on production needs.

Salary Range: $16–18 per hour.
