Automation Engineering Manager
Overview:
Stryten Energy is hiring an Automation Engineering Manager to lead our Automation Engineering team. Your expertise will help guide us and drive our increasing automation needs across our manufacturing portfolio in North America. The role is highly visible and impacts all our current operations including recycling, plastics manufacturing, and all transportation and industrial battery manufacturing.The automation team will be responsible for improving three key areas: process capability, asset utilization, and process safety. This will enable us to achieve material savings, scrap reduction, labor reduction, increased manufacturing capacity, and improvements to operator safety.

We have 11 manufacturing facilities located in the United States from the Midwest to the east coast. Your presence must be felt in all the facilities as you guide the automation team. Reporting to the Process Engineering Director, you are the leader of our effort in automation, and your impact will be felt across the organization.

Responsibilities:
- Utilize and coach your team to use six sigma and lean methodologies to drive improvements to our product key attributes
- Drive adoption of advanced process control methodologies (PID controllers, Feedforward, ratio controllers, cascade, etc.)
- Drive Improvements and the automation of process measurement methodologies
- Develop universal process level UDTs that enable SCADA solutions and integrate MES to improve our manufacturing efficiency and help drive strategic process improvements
- Understand the processes at our facilities and the roles of people
- Grow knowledge of the facility team and improve documentation
- Ability to handle lead, and lead acid batteries
- Ability to foster strong relationship with members of the operations team and vendors
- Able to work at all levels across the organization
- Ability to grow your personal knowledge and technical ability
- Assist as we develop strategy around IOT and Industry 4.0
- Ability to design custom control panels for small projects across locations using AutoCAD Electrical and create complete drawing packages
- Experience building control panels from scratch from schematics
- Deep understanding of machine troubleshooting methods and controls modifications
Qualifications:
- BS Or Greater in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering
- 3-5 years managing a team of 4 or more engineers
- 3-5 years of direct experience in process or manufacturing engineering, with a track record of driving operational excellence
- Proven experience with any of the following PLCs: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, AutomationDirect, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat, or Toshiba but Allen Bradly is preferred
- Experience in HMI and/or Operator Interface programming and configuration of any of the following software packages Ignition, Wonderware, Rockwell, Intellution, Factory Talk, GE Cimplicity, Ci-Tech, Iconics, Siemens, or US Data is a requirement for this role, and Ignition is preferred
- Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SQL, and Python
- Six sigma certification is a strong plus, and should you be selected for the role without this certification, Stryten will sponsor and pay for your training/certification
- An understanding of FEA techniques and computational optimization
- You will work in both office and manufacturing environments. Battery manufacturing employs chemicals, heat and heavy equipment, and as such you will at times be exposed to lead, fumes, noise, dirt, hazards, and chemicals, and in all cases will be provided with appropriate PPE
- You must be able to see, hear and speak; able to sit, stand for at least two hours at a time, sit, bend, crawl, squat, kneel and climb able to use both arms and hands to use a computer and peripherals and lift 40 pounds from floor level, able to work below ground level in confined spaces and on stationary or mobile elevated platforms, able to wear respirator and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, able to climb stairs
- This position requires extensive travel, with more than 75% of your time expected to be spent at manufacturing facilities
