POWERLINE TECHNICIAN CO-OP STUDENT
ABOUT THIS ROLE
We have a unique opportunity to gain valuable work experience in our Powerline department as a Powerline Technician Co-op Student, for a 4-month term from January to April. If you are currently enrolled in a relevant program, this opportunity will help to prepare you for a future career in the utility sector.At Burlington Hydro Inc. As a Powerline Technician Co-op Student, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute as part of our team, work alongside and learn from experienced and talented professionals. Reporting to the Powerline Supervisor, you will work with a crew that is responsible for the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems.Responsibilities will be aligned to the trainee’s level of experience and duties may include maintaining tools and equipment, troubleshooting repairs and restoration of system outages.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist Powerline Technicians by serving as a helper during various tasks and operations
- Help with cleaning, stocking and preparing trucks for daily operations, including performing holding valve checks and setup
- Assist with traffic control setup following Book 7 guidelines
- Maintain a clean and safe worksite or garage, adhering to all safety regulations and practices as outlined by Burlington Hydro Inc., the Ministry of Labour (MOL) and the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA)
- Safely operate machinery, tools, and equipment, including aerial devices, radial boom derricks, and power tools, during line construction and maintenance work
- All other duties as assigned
- Enrolled and have good academic standing in the Powerline Technician program
- Enrolled with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities as a registered Powerline Technician Apprentice
- Must possess a valid G Class Ontario Driver’s License in good standing; DZ license is an asset
- Book 7 Traffic Control and Fall Arrest training is required
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification is an asset
- Possess knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS
- Maintain the physical fitness necessary to perform the duties of the role, including confidently climbing and working at heights, and being willing and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reading comprehension and mathematical skills
- Knowledge of relevant computer skills (MS Office)
- Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills
- A good work ethic with a positive approach to work and coworkers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
