What you'll do:

As a Software Engineer you will work as a member of the program delivery team and support the product development team. Both teams focus on developing and supporting the delivery of monitor and control software, ViaControl, for satellite antenna systems.
You will be participating in active software development of device drivers and product features in either a waterfall or agile methodology. We are seeking a Software Engineer Intern with experience working in Python and knowledge of various communication protocols to include TCP, SNMP, and REST.

An ideal candidate will have the knowledge and desire to support the design, development, implementation, integration, and testing of the ViaControl M&C software.

The day-to-day:

Job responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, test, and document device drivers
  • Configure and deploy ViaControl M&C software on to various hardware and Antenna systems
  • Support internal and external customers with general questions and support resolving issues
  • Work closely with the product development team to support feature development and provide feedback on system performance
  • Support other team members in meeting delivery timeline and resolving any issues

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.
  • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.
  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.

What you'll need:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026
  • Strong analytical skills to approach and solve problems effectively
  • Ability to articulate thoughts clearly, both in writing and verbally, to collaborate with team members
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing environments
  • US citizenship is required for this position

Internship Dates:

  • You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:
  • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 – August 15th, 2025
  • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 – September 12th, 2025

What will help you on the job:

  • Hands-on development experience with Python
  • Hand-on experience with Ansible
  • Knowledge of LINUX OS platform, preferably RedHat or CentOs
  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as TCP, SNMP, REST

Salary range: $20.91 - $56.97 / hourly.

For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly
