Flexible & Rigid Foam Tester

CTG is seeking to fill a Flexible & Rigid Foam Tester opening for our client in Pittsburgh, PA.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Duration: 6 months

Pay Rate: $25.00/hour

Duties:

  • Perform standardized testing of flexible and rigid foam materials, primarily for automotive, furniture, bedding, insulation, and appliance applications.
  • Prepare specimens and set up test equipment according to appropriate test methods.
  • Complete testing, ensure results are accurate, and transfer data to the Sample Manager LIMS.
  • Manage sample preparation activities, including aging and time-sensitive processes, to ensure efficient testing.
  • Identify areas for improvement and provide feedback to senior testing personnel.
  • Perform routine maintenance and verify equipment and instruments, with minimal supervision.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues and suggest improvements based on established procedures.
  • Follow safety protocols (SOP, JSA, PHA, Management of Change, etc.), and ensure compliance with safety and operational guidelines.
  • Support other team members in various tasks as required and assist with additional materials testing methods when trained.
  • Maintain consistency in results by following A2LA Accreditation requirements and maintaining control charts (SQC).
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to provide information, exchange observations, and make suggestions for improvements.

Skills:

  • Ability to operate testing equipment independently (both computer-controlled and stand-alone).
  • Proficient in using basic office software, including Sample Manager LIMS and test equipment software.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude for equipment operation and sample preparation.
  • Familiar with test methods such as ASTM, ISO, or industry-specific test specifications (automotive, electronics, etc.).
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and maintain high productivity with minimal supervision.

Experience:

  • 2-5 years of technical/mechanical/operations experience, or an Associate Degree in a technical discipline with some work experience.
  • Prior experience with testing flexible and rigid foams is preferred.
  • Experience in analyzing test data and maintaining control charts is an asset.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, plus 2-5 years of relevant experience, or an Associate Degree in a technical discipline.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
