As a Principal Systems Engineer of our technical staff, you'll apply advanced principles of engineering and management to solve complex problems. As a leader, you'll oversee and manage design and development processes as they relate to the engineering of products utilizing principles and technology of physics, mathematics, engineering, and related physical sciences.
Your day to day activities and responsibilities in this pivotal role will include;-
Performing requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of subsystem or system elements under supervision of the lead systems engineer-
Technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements-
Creating customer requirements analysis, developing system requirements and defining allocations to lower levels (elements and components)-
Conducting detailed technical analyses for a subsystem or system elements-
Developing and evaluates systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental security specifications-
May be asked to provide system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features (e.g., identification, authentication, access control, labeling, and auditing) of the system are considered and function properly-
Developing system security documentation on both new and fielded information systems-
Participating in Modeling and Simulation-
Researching and analyzing data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application-
Supporting the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle-
Contributing to the completion of major programs and projects-
Planning and executing project tasks for activities described above-
Defining processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility-
Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions-
Designing a complete and complex framework, system or product-
Identifying, analyzing and resolving system design weaknesses-
Quickly (with a more agile light-weight approach) decomposing requirements to a level that can avoid requirements bloat (and communicate/track impacts)Requirements for success in this senior role include:-
Active Top Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship)-
Bachelor's degree and minimum of 10 years of related systems engineering experience (or 8 years with a master's)-
Complex ground RF system design (satellite, radio, or cellular network)-
RF and modem communications system link budget design-
Deployment of system, and in-field testing of RF networks-
Software or hardware system design for high-speed data applications including protocols at the network layer and transport layers of large networks-
Error budget analysis in either the RF or latency of large complex systems-
Exceptional leadership and communication skills-
Satellite communications,
Ground to Satellite communication, or
Ground operations experience-
Multi-level security domain expertise (and cross-domain)-
Demonstrated history of creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills-
Prior history or working relationship with Iridium, SDA, Northrup, York, and/or Lockheed a plus-
System-level networking skills and ability to face off with the GFE WAN provider and coordinate detailed network design-
Solid understanding of what is in scope and what is out of scope and manage that complexity-
Agile program experience
