Position: Laboratory Technician
Location: USA | Adams, Massachusetts

Pay Rate: $27.25/hour

This is considered a safety sensitive position therefore will be subject to random drug testing as required.

Job Summary

Under routine supervision, collects and prepares samples for distribution to prospective customers. Also, samples, tests, labels and help with the disposition of critical raw materials and returned products to ensure that the established quality standards are maintained.

Responsibilities:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Validation Product samples
  • Gather product samples for customer validations.
  • Prepare and send the samples as requested with COA and SDS.
  1. Incoming Raw Materials
  • Inspect the condition and COAs of incoming raw materials.
  • Review critical raw material characteristic trends and advise for any action.
  • Perform internal tests as necessary.
  • Prepare samples for any required outside testing.
  1. Microbial Monitoring
  • Gather water samples weekly from GCC and PCC UV Systems.
  • Perform the necessary bacteria testing.
  • Report and follow up on any anormal condition on the UV systems or micro results.
  • Gather biannual samples for outside micro testing.
  • Gather biannual water samples for outside micro testing.
  1. Laboratory sample shipping
  • Prepare and send samples/equipment to outside laboratories/suppliers/customers.
  1. Special QA activities/sampling
  • Ensure material OOS is put on hold.
  • Keep track of product on hold until dispositioned.
  • Receive, inspect and gather samples of customer returned product.
  • Gather evidence in Customer Concerns or Quality Alerts investigations.
  1. Stability Chamber
  • Maintain the equipment operational (paper charts and water levels)
  1. Laboratory Material
  • Keep track of Chemicals/Standards/Consumables needed in the Laboratory.
  • Support restocking the materials.
  • Keep control and order of retained material.
  • Keep control and order of laboratory books.
  • Coordinate internal/external calibration of laboratory instruments.
  1. Process Plant Inspections
  • Perform inspection checks to magnet strength and equipment conditions.
  • Perform checks to metal detectors.
  • Review and train production operators to do proper magnet sampling and metal detector verification
  1. OE/Lean
  • Actively participates in the implementation of sustainable improvement processes, such as 5S, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Daily Management Control, Standard Work and Problem Solving.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent and a general understanding of chemistry.

Experience: Prior experience is not required. However, it is preferred.

Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability to work in an laboratory environment, using lab equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, follow instructions and other oral/written information, compose correspondence in a professional manner, complete paperwork and other documentation and enter information into electronic systems accurately, work independently and with others, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization, analyze information/situations as needed, be organized and detail-oriented, be able to identify/judge the urgency of a situation, use judgment in decision making and use creativity and negotiation when necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to regularly conduct work in a controlled office environment, moving around the office as needed, sitting at a desk, and using office equipment, including but not limited to a personal computer, copier and phone.
Constant contact with individuals internal and external to the organization occurs via various methods of communication typically including face-to-face discussions, electronic mail, phone calls, and/or written letters. Occasionally there will be exposure to plant production areas, which includes exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes.

Exposure to plant areas requires the use of appropriate safety equipment. Personal protective equipment is available for employee use in these circumstances.

Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to effectively handle conflict situations, display a cooperative demeanor, maintain composure, have integrity, persistence and initiative, as well as be dependable and adaptable to changing circumstances.

Must have ability to work independently and to make appropriate decisions in a timely manner as well as handle multiple tasks efficiently. Must develop effective working relationship with all individuals internal & external to MTI. Additionally, must read, understand and follow all company, job specific and safety policies/procedures, and attend/use all required training.

Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is to be provided New Employee Training from a qualified individual, which consists of classroom training and a tour of plant area(s). Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate and/or as dictated by MSHA regulations.

Upon transferring to perform the duties of this position for the first time an employee is to be provided New Task Training by a qualified individual until the employee adequately understands the contents of the training, which include job/work area procedures and related topics.

Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee’s position.

Work Hours: Must have ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays and weekends, as necessary.
