Overview:
AVIAN is seeking a Journeyman Strategic Communications Specialist to support a Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR)'s Unmanned Carrier Aviation program office (PMA-268). You will work as part of a team producing strategic communications and multimedia products, both internal and external, through a broad range of tools and tactics.
You will join AVIAN’s cadre of creative professionals who specialize in strategic communication, graphic design, marketing, multimedia production and more. Our creative team supports each other through constructive peer reviews, shares professional resources and regularly gathers for continuing education sessions.

Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a team to produce and deliver effective internal and external stakeholder communications using the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite as well as other current industry software.
- Coordinate with the Program Executive Office public affairs to facilitate communications between the media, squadrons, industry partners, NAVAIR IPTs and other agencies by providing specialized communications.
- Assist with writing in alignment with AP style and government guidelines including, but not limited to articles, captions, briefs and presentations; content for communications strategies such as news media strategies, crisis media response planning, key messaging, media query responses, press releases, feature articles, talking points/speeches, and social media posts; awards such as Letters of Appreciation, Civilian and Military Awards, and external honorary awards.
- Support public relations to include, but not limited to senior leadership interview preparation, media training, event planning/coordination, protocol activities, and engage in promoting or creating an intended public image for individuals, groups, or organizations.
- Design multimedia and graphic products to include, but not limited to infographics, illustrations, logos/branding, photography, image editing, and publication design.
- Experience with Microsoft apps such as Forms, Planner, SharePoint and Power Automate a plus.
- Candidate must be a flexible team player and self-starter possessing excellent organizational skills. The ideal individual will have the ability to function in a team environment or autonomously, manage competing priorities, and be able to meet critical project schedules.
- Selected candidate must be able to handle several tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to travel occasionally is also required.
- This is a hybrid position allowing for some telework and some on-site requirements in Patuxent River, MD.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree plus three to ten years of combined experience in the communications field.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.
- Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Salary range: $80,000-85,000 (The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.)
