Pharmacy refill technician
The Pharmacy Refill Technician demonstrates excellent customer service in line with the Vision, Mission, and Values of Covenant Healthcare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the primary responsibilities include mailing and shipping prescriptions, handling prescription refills, and contacting specialty patients for refill reminders.
Secondary responsibilities include managing pharmacy inventory, placing orders, and maintaining stock levels. The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy's operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:� Primary Duties: o Process and ship prescriptions to patients in a timely manner, ensuring proper packaging and adherence to regulations.
o Handle patient refill requests, verify prescription details, and coordinate with the pharmacy team to ensure accurate and prompt refill processing.o Contact specialty patients proactively to remind them of upcoming refills, ensuring they receive medications on time and addressing any concerns or needs.
o Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers regarding prescriptions, refill status, and any other relevant information.
o Coordinate with delivery services to ensure prescriptions reach patients on time.
� Secondary Duties: o Manage and maintain the physical pharmacy inventory, ensuring sufficient stock levels for ongoing pharmacy operations.
o Maintain pharmacy inventory databases and track all purchases, credits, and narcotics in compliance with federal, state, and hospital policies.o Process drug recalls and other regulatory requirements according to FDA procedures.
o Create purchase orders using pharmacy wholesaler systems and place non-drug or direct orders in the Lawson system.
o Assist in maintaining the 340b purchasing program.
o Receive orders from wholesalers and restock items appropriately.
o Process stock orders for Covenant-owned physician offices.
� General Responsibilities: o Participate in unit meetings, in-services, and activities supporting the pharmacy team and organization goals.
o Stay up to date on pharmacy-related developments, including new prescription services, regulations, and technologies.o Collaborate with the pharmacy team, physician offices, and hospital departments on product recalls, shortages, or other issues.
o Meet with pharmaceutical sales representatives to discuss contracts, product needs, and other pharmacy-related initiatives.
o Perform administrative tasks as assigned, including handling patient billing and audits when necessary.
o Prioritize tasks and meet the demands of daily workflows while ensuring exceptional patient service.
Other Duties: � Additional tasks may be assigned to support the department�s operations as needed.
Qualifications: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Certification as a Pharmacy Technician by successfully passing the National Certification test. Technician certification must be maintained while employed as evidenced by certificate renewal. If exceptions are made the technician must obtain certification no later than 1 year after employment or employment will be terminated.
Previous experience as a hospital pharmacy technician and purchasing experience
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Math and pharmaceutical proficiency must be demonstrated by testing and observation.
Must be able to work well with the public and able to be tactful in often hectic and stressful situations. Includes proper phone etiquette.
Must be able to type and use basic Windows computer applications as well as more complex computer applications with training.
Sound judgment in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
Ability to work with accuracy and meet established deadlines.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
