Work also involves a full managerial and supervisory role including the establishment of operations and policy, evaluation, and adherence to prescribed standards, and program planning. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policy and state and federal law.
The employee is subject to hazards associated with law enforcement, which includes working in both inside and outside environments. Work also includes preparing special state, federal, and local reports, cooperating with other law enforcement agencies, preparing, and managing a budget, and supervising all department personnel.
Work shall be performed under the direct supervision of the City Manager and is evaluated through observation, discussion, and review of reports, and through an appraisal of the general effectiveness of departmental operations. Performs administrative, managerial, and specialized law enforcement work in directing the activities of the Police department.
The City is seeking a person who has related experience in this field. Minimum requirements: Graduation from a two-year college in criminal justice, police science, supplemented by advanced course in police administration and considerable experience of a progressive responsible nature in law enforcement work, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Desirable Requirements: Bachelors degree with coursework in criminal justice or police science, law enforcement administration, or related field and extensive experience of a wide and progressively responsible nature in police services supervision, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum seven (7) years management experience in law enforcement preferred. Minimum ten (10) years management experience in law enforcement preferred. The City of Whiteville Police Department is CALEA accredited.
Possession of a valid North Carolina or South Carolina drivers license and completion of the minimum requirements established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission for certified law enforcement officers; or ability to obtain BLET Certification in North Carolina within twelve (12) months of hire date, and must meet and maintain all certifications, license, and training requirement of position.**If you are a proactive person and want to be part of a professional team and growing organization, this could be the right place for you!**
