About Our Client
Successful media organization, highly reputable company based in prestigious Midtown office, Manhattan. This General Counsel role will work very closely with the senior leadership team and outside counsel to oversee and handle a variety of commercial legal matters, IP, content distribution, sponsorship and partnership agreements.
Job Description
As General Counsel you will be responsible for:
- Varied commercial and corporate legal work
- Managing Outside Counsel
- Attending senior leadership and commercial agreement meetings with the leadership team
- A busy stand-alone legal role responsible for the hands-on drafting, negotiating and reviewing varied contracts: marketing, content distribution, production, licensing and partnership agreements.

The Successful Applicant
The ideal General Counsel candidate will have demonstrable skills and approach:
- Business and commercially minded General Counsel who can advise the senior leadership team on recommended legal approach for varied commercial and corporate legal matters
- Able to confidently provide sound legal counsel on a variety of matters - commercial agreements, transactions, employment and other corporate legal matters
- Previous experience in media/ marketing/ publishing (either in a law firm or in-house is essential). Must have extensive experience in contract negotiation and review: sponsorship, content distribution, marketing, partnerships, rental agreements, licensing, talent agreements and IP.
- Happy to be hands-on, able to work at pace in volume whilst maintaining excellent attention to detail - this is currently a stand-alone legal role with some support from outside counsel.
- JD and admission to the NY State Bar required
- The ideal candidate will have 7+ years relevant experience within the media, licensing and sponsorship/ marketing/ media/ entertainment industry either from a law firm or in-house setting
