Position: Accounting Intern
Reports to: Senior Manager FP&A Asst.(primary) Director of Finance (primary) Senior Staff Accountant (secondary)
Location: Hybrid (New York Area Preferred)
Duration: For a period not to exceed one year

Compensation: $16/hr. (25 Hours weekly)

Background

The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) is the world’s leading non-governmental, non-profit funder of lupus research. Over the past 20 years, the LRA has invested over $250 million in lupus research in more than 560 research and clinical studies. More recently, the LRA established an affiliate organization, Lupus Therapeutics (LT), which is responsible for the coordination, conduct and management of a North American-based clinical trial consortium, the Lupus Clinical Investigators Network (LuCIN).

Position Overview

The LRA/LT is seeking an Accounting Intern. In this position you will work closely with our finance team to support various financial processes and contribute to the overall financial management of our organization. This internship will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of financial operations within a non-profit environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform data entry of credit card (PNC charges into QuickBooks and subsequently reconcile the entries.
  • Assist by entering QuickBooks deposit entries. (Classy & bank deposits)
  • Code deposits prior to deposit using coding information obtained from development.
  • Aid in entering recurring expenses into QuickBooks, such as Verizon and Telco.
  • Assisting in the management of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Supporting the tracking and reconciliation of financial transactions, including donations, grants, and expenses, bank activity.
  • Providing general administrative support to the finance team, including data entry, filing, and document management.
  • Assist in the management of staff timesheets, ensuring all hours are received in a timely manner and approved by the manager.
  • Support the reconciliation of donations for events. (e.g. classy)

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; some college preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be responsive to multiple requests from different finance team members.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to work with financial data and perform calculations accurately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks. (preferably Concur) and finance programs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
