POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze and interpret complex biological data using advanced bioinformatics tools and techniques.
  • Develop and implement machine learning and deep learning algorithms to drive data-driven insights.
  • Manage and manipulate large datasets using SQL (Oracle and SQL Server) for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
  • Create and maintain data visualizations and dashboards using Power BI to communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data-driven decision-making and research initiatives.
  • Utilize EHR database systems such as Epic Clarity or Caboodle to integrate and analyze healthcare data.
  • Meet with investigators to discuss data requests that are part of a grant, research proposal, or quality improvement project.
  • Help refine data requests into specific extractable data items and process them into specific research variables.
  • Ensure IRB approval for data extraction.
  • Refer requests to Data Center leadership if study design or data definitions need further clarification.
  • Write and store code (e.g., SQL) for extracting data elements.
  • Maintain continuous communication with PI during data extraction to clarify and redefine if necessary.
  • Process extracted data elements into research variables meeting PI specifications using data processing software (Stata, R, or similar).
  • Document projects, code used for extraction, data processing steps, and final dataset.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.

Master’s Degree in a relevant field preferred.

Experience:

  1. 5 years of experience in bioinformatics, data science, or a related field.

Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and techniques.

Experience with machine learning and deep learning algorithms.

Minimum Salary Range: USD $99,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary Range: USD $110,000.00/Yr.

About Us:

A new Clinical Data Center is being developed by the Department of Medicine, to efficiently handle the influx of requests for informatics and data services for research purposes. This position will be embedded in the Clinical Data Center, work with investigators and the epidemiologist in the Data Center to refine requests for data into actionable data element lists, lead data extraction efforts from Montefiore's Enterprise Data Warehouse and Epic/Clarity, and process raw data extractions into analyzable data tables that meet the specifications of the investigator team.

Specific duties include: meeting with investigators and Data Center staff to iteratively refine data requests, have ongoing iterations of refining with the team during the data extraction process, document and share case definitions and data element definitions with other data extractor in the Data Center, reshape, merge, and recode extracted tables to create an analyzable data table.
