Special Education Adjunct Faculty – Graduate Level
Overview:
Position Summary:
The National College of Education (NCE) at National Louis University (NLU) is proactively recruiting Adjunct Instructors of Special Education- Graduate Level for part-time adjunct faculty openings expected in the future. Candidates will be added to a pool of applicants.
Adjunct faculty will be teaching graduate and/or doctoral courses like:
- Educational and Diagnostic Assessment in Special Education
- Language Development, Differences, and Challenges in Children and Adolescents
- Methods of Social/Emotional Support
- Early Childhood Special Education Language Development, Differences, and Challenges, etc.

Since 1886, NLU has trained thousands of teachers and administrators and continues to graduate the majority of winners honored by Illinois’ two Golden Apple Foundations with one of the most prestigious teaching and leadership honors in the state.
Availability:
Starting Winter 2025 term and beyond- Instructional modalities may be online (asynchronous), virtual (synchronous), or in-person (Chicago or Wheeling campus).
Essential Responsibilities:

- Teach assigned course based on approved syllabus and developed course
- Collaborate to develop an effective student experience for students.
- Implement evaluation methods as outlined in the approved syllabus
- Maintain current and active knowledge in the expertise area that is reflected in instruction
- Communicate professionally, relate well, and share a passion for graduate-level success for diverse learners
- Empower students to develop competency by sharing a passion for the subject and the skills
- Promote student success by showing flexibility in delivery and work schedule to provide student support, as well as, exhibit a passion for teaching and engaging students in the learning process
- Utilize technology-based teaching platforms
- Attend adjunct orientation before the start of each term
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master’s degree or higher in the field/content area OR Master’s degree or higher in related field, with at least 32 semester hours in content area
- Current or prior endorsement, certification, and/or licensure in the content area
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience teaching in the field/content area
- Ability to work with a highly diverse faculty and student body
- Ability to use data to inform instruction
- Experience with teaching online, using educational technology tools
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred:
- Earned Doctorate degree
- Bilingual in English/Spanish
- Demonstrated scholarship
- Current professional teaching experience

Adjunct Faculty are paid by course or assignment each term. These rates vary by college and number of credit hours for the course/assignment. While the specific amount will be indicated in an electronic contract that is issued to the Adjunct Faculty member when the course is assigned, an overview of standard rate structure is available below:
