Summary:

The Aviation Equipment Specialist will work independently within the New Product

Development team's framework. Engage with SRR Technical Services to stay up to date on production floor needs for reverse engineering or enhanced repair processes.

The Aviation Equipment Specialist will assist the COR with program/project execution to include but not limited to, responding to technical service requests, process reverse engineering requests using ALC's Spare Parts Breakout procedures, perform Fit/Form/Function checks on newly manufactured components, process procurement requests in AMMIS, track and update SRR service requests on the IOD WIP report listed as awaiting SRR engineering information.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Will represent the interests of the SRR Engineering Cell through communications with off base vendors and will coordinate visits with vendors on the ALC premises. Travel to vendor locations to perform site visits will be required (approximately 1 2-3 day trip per quarter).
  • Will participate in an advisory role in planning/progress meetings and technical reviews. Fixed timelines for special projects will normally not be developed and continuous lines of open communication with the SRR Engineering Officer, Production Floor, IOD, ESD, BOD and other stakeholders must be maintained.
  • Must maintain subject matter expert level knowledge on ALC procedures including but not limited to, Local Parts Manufacture, ALCINST 13020.l0B; Services Request Procedures, ALCINST 13020.l 1D; Engineering Specification Procedures ALCINST 13020.15C; Work Expedite Request, ALCINST 13020.16; Enterprise Production System, ALCINST 13020.4; Routing Tag Process, ALCINST 13023.3D; Spare Parts Breakout/New Product Development, ALCINST 4200.3B; Handling Movement and Protection of Aviation Parts, ALCINST 4440.2A; Aeronautical Engineering Maintenance Management, PG-85-00-110-A; ENG SPECs, GEN SPECs, and MIL-STDs.
  • Be familiar with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technical manuals and provide engineering services to assist in updating SRR Illustrated Parts Manual. Be familiar with 14 CFR Parts 21, 43, 45, and 145, FAA Orders 8110.42 and 8120.22, FAA Form 8130 processes, and any other federal regulations pertaining to airworthiness. Qualified to interpret fleet structural conditions and make airworthiness recommendations to USCG SRR Engineering staff. Possess the requisite USCG H65 airframe knowledge to develop special shoring/jacking plans for unique repair scenarios. Assist COR in making safety of flight determinations for fasteners and holes. Required to independently design, evaluate, and certify holding fixtures for a variety of components. Interpret critical measurements and conduct alignment of critical aircraft components on the USCG MH-65 airframe.
  • Be familiar with the requirements of and perform technical evaluation of vendor and repair station type and class under 14 CFR 145 including but not limited to facilities, equipment, tooling, technical data, materials, personnel, training, return to service process, quality control, certification, record keeping, non-destructive inspection, and sub-contractors.

Qualifications:

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Shall be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and know how to use these tools for communication and suitable presentations of research results and recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Shall have ten (10) years of USCG or DOD engineering experience in the areas of aircraft maintenance, modification, repair, and overhaul. Relevant experience shall be identified as experience obtained within fifteen (15) years of award date.
  • Shall possess a SECRET security clearance at time of award and must maintain the SECRET security clearance for the life of the contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the MH-65 (AS 365/366) helicopter is strongly desired.
  • Experience or training in Aviation Safety is desired.
  • Experience with authoring, reviewing, and editing aircraft component maintenance, overhaul and repair procedures is desired.
