Position Summary

Administers overall operations of a clinical Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team in a department or program to include staffing, staff development, strategic planning, budgeting, quality assurance, and administration of activities and personnel that impact inpatient and/or outpatient clinical operations.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for leadership and management of APPs (APRNs: Advanced Practice Registered Nurses or PAs: Physician Assistants), including recruitment, retention, supervision, evaluation, and productivity.
  • Establishes goals and objectives in concert with the medical and administrative teams to support Orlando Health mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • Ensures that appropriate personnel are in place by developing and managing a staffing plan for the team.
  • Plans, develops, monitors, and assumes accountability for operating within the annual department and capital equipment budget.
  • Reviews billing activity of clinical APPs for the purposes of compliance, distribution of effort, and in comparison with budgeted activity as applicable.
  • Develops and supports a culture of quality, safety, and clinical excellence in patient care.
  • Performs all essential functions of either an APRN or PA and performs applicable APP role when determined necessary.
  • Provides leadership in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in development of evidence-based clinical initiatives, integrating current literature and benchmark information as a foundation for process improvement to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Assesses related processes and implements techniques to promote and improve the quality and continuity of patient care.
  • Assures that the APPs they manage function in accordance with federal and state regulatory standards and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues throughout Orlando Health.
  • Actively participates on hospital, corporate, and community committees.
  • Holds self and others accountable to the Orlando Health Standards of Behavior and demonstrates a passion for customer service.
  • Exhibits proficient organization and problem-solving skills to develop/implement effective policies, procedures, programs, and efficient work processes, and to successfully resolve difficult conflict-oriented situations.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, team members, patients, and families.
  • Manages various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts.
  • Functions as a member of the Orlando Health Leadership team.
  • Participates in professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels

Qualifications:

Education/Training
  • APRN candidate: MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing required.
  • PA candidate: Graduate of accredited physician assistant program.
Licensure/Certification
  • APRN candidate: Current license in the state of Florida. After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board.
  • PA candidate: Current licensure in state of Florida and maintains NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assitants).
  • All Candidates: American Heart Association BLS certification.
Experience

Three (3) years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA).

Three (3) years' leadership experience in related field.
