Hispanic Federation (HF) is the nation's premier Latino nonprofit membership organization. Founded in 1990, HF supports Hispanic families and strengthens Latino institutions through organizational capacity building and grantmaking, policy advocacy, and direct services to Latino communities.

HF is headquartered in New York City and has offices in Los Angeles, CA; Hartford, CT; Orlando, FL; Chicago, IL; Charlotte and Mount Olive, NC; San Juan, PR; and Washington, DC.

Scope of Work

Hispanic Federation (HF) seeks a consultant to provide support with public sector funding strategies and proposal writing. The consultant will assist HF leadership with 1) identifying strategic public sector funding opportunities that align with HF’s strengths, programmatic priorities, and funding needs and 2) provide subject matter expertise to organize, draft, and submit competitive funding proposals in collaboration with HF program and development staff.

Public sector funding can include grants available directly through government agencies; grants passed through municipal, city & state agencies; federal earmarks; and other opportunities where funding originates from a public sector entity.

Principal Objectives:

  • Assess Hispanic Federation’s institutional strengths, programmatic priorities, and funding needs.
  • Research and present prospective public sector funding opportunities that align with HF needs and for which HF strengths will provide competitive edge.
  • Support the creation of a long-term public sector funding strategy, with an emphasis on multiyear funding and grants with opportunities to continue or renew funding.
  • Prepare competitive public sector funding proposals and prepare copy that can be used for future proposals.

Primary deliverables:

  • Report of public sector funding opportunities that match well with Hispanic Federation’s programs and aspirations
  • Public sector funding strategy with recommendations of which funding opportunities are most attainable and aligned with HF
  • 4-6 competitive and strategic proposals written and successfully submitted.

Timeline

Hispanic Federation seeks a consultant available to begin immediately with the capacity to prepare the first grant for submission by October 20, 2024. Ongoing services would likely continue through August 2025, with the possibility of renewal.

Skills and qualifications
  • A proven track record of writing and winning public sector funding proposals
  • Access to diverse subject matter experts with knowledge of HF’s key programmatic areas, namely renewable energy, education, health outreach, civic participation and engagement, among others.
  • Experience collaborating with national nonprofit organizations who have a membership model
  • Experience working with clients from diverse regions of the US, including its territories like Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
  • Ability to assess the viability of proposals by reviewing and scoring drafts and preparing the most successful proposals possible.
  • Strong project management with clear timelines and methods for collaboration and client engagement.
