JOB TITLE: Systems Administrator/Monitoring Specialist
GOVERNMENT AGENCY: DOJ EOIR
POSITION INFORMATION: Full-time

LOCATION: Falls Church, VA; Hybrid (3 days remote every 2 weeks; will be shifting to 2 days remote per week within the next 30-60 days)

POSITION TIMING: Position requires candidate to obtain a DOJ Public Trust clearance which can take 4-6 weeks to process and must be complete prior to starting employement

We are seeking a detail-oriented IT Monitoring Specialist to join our dynamic IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring the health, performance, and security of our IT systems and infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the availability and reliability of IT services, responding to alerts, and providing support to resolve issues promptly.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • System Monitoring: Utilize monitoring tools to track system performance, availability, and security. Ensure all IT infrastructure components, including servers, networks, applications, and databases, are functioning optimally.
  • Incident Management: Respond to system alerts and notifications. Investigate and diagnose issues, and escalate complex problems to higher-level IT support teams as necessary. Document and track incident resolution progress.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze performance data to identify trends and potential areas for improvement. Recommend and implement solutions to enhance system efficiency and reliability.
  • Reporting: Generate and review regular reports on system performance, incidents, and other relevant metrics. Provide insights and recommendations based on these reports.
  • Maintenance: Assist with routine maintenance tasks, including software updates, patches, and system backups. Ensure adherence to IT policies and procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other IT team members, including network engineers, system administrators, and application developers, to address and resolve issues.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of monitoring processes, incident responses, and system changes. Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
  • Security Monitoring: Monitor security alerts and logs to detect and respond to potential security threats. Assist in maintaining compliance with security policies and protocols.
  • User Support: Provide support to end-users as needed, addressing any IT-related issues or concerns that arise.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED:

  • Ability to obtain a DOJ Public Trust clearance (must be obtained prior to start date)
  • 7+ years of related IT experience
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Azure, Splunk, or similar platforms is preferred
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components, including servers, networks, and databases
  • Proficiency in monitoring and alerting tools
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation tasks is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Candidate must be able to function in general office environment.
  • The person in this position must have the ability to lift and move IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
