Job Summary:

This position functions under the supervision of the Chemist Supervisor for Environmental Health Division Inorganics Section. The position has responsibilities, which include testing and participation in method development in the Inorganic Wet Chemistry/Metals areas of the laboratory.

This position is responsible for independently preparing and analyzing environmental samples. This position works with the team members to monitor the status of tests in the Wet Chemistry/Metals areas.

The successful candidate will perform routine analysis on Inorganic/Metals environmental samples with minimal supervision. Work in the laboratory involves the operation and maintenance of flow injection analyzers (FIA), inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), graphite furnace atomic absorption GFFA and ion chromatography (IC) instrumentation.

Personal initiative, independence, strong technical skills, and collaboration are essential in this role.

Primary work hours are 7:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:

For the Chem I: Chemistry college-level laboratory course work required. Analytical laboratory experience preferred.
For the Chem II: Science college-level laboratory course work required. Two -Three years analytical laboratory experience required.

5+ years analytical laboratory experience preferred: Previous experience working in an environmental laboratory setting is highly desired.

Experience with FIA, ICP-OES, GFAA IC instrumentation preferred.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Chemist I: $50,000/year

Chemist II: $56,000/year

Actual salary is to be determined upon hire and dependent on qualifications.

Physical requirement including lifting up to 30 pounds and standing for extended periods of time.
