Langson Institute and Museum of California Art (Langson IMCA) is an emerging organization with limited but growing personnel and financial resources, operating within the larger framework of the University of California public education system.

Founded in 2017 following the donation of two significant private collections of California Art to UCI, Langson IMCA aims to unite students, faculty, scholars, artists, and the public in generating new knowledge and fostering transformative experiences inspired by California Art and its global contexts.

Responsibilities:

Possess a broad knowledge of mindful museum and community engagement experiences to contribute to the creation of an exceptional experience for all visitors to UCI Langson Institute and Museum of California Art (Langson IMCA). Works across multiple visitor-facing areas including visitor orientation, education, and community engagement.
They will provide information regarding exhibitions, programs, events, membership, and assist in the development of best practices in community engagement strategies to meet the needs of museum audiences of all ages in the galleries and off-site in the community.

Uses professional public educational program concepts in the completion of public education assignments. Works on programs and needs assessments that are of moderate scope and complexity. Modifies existing public educational programs or develops segments of larger programs.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $25.77- $28.94 (Hourly).

Required:

  • Working knowledge of departmental and organization policies and procedures; knowledge of educational program content and objectives.
  • Working knowledge of delivering public educational programs.
  • Working knowledge of current public education programs and trends.
  • Working skills to produce and deliver programs.
  • Good analytical skills to understand how business needs can be addressed through the design and delivery of training programs.
  • Good reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, and good presentation skills. Strong interpersonal skills and poise in dealing with diverse publics including, among others, influential community leaders, University executives, members, donors, administrative personnel and volunteers. Crisis resilient with the ability to identify and positively resolve visitor issues in the moment.
  • Ability to contribute and succeed within a collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Knowledge of California art, artist, and art-making practices.
  • Experience in hospitality, retail, or cultural organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Continuing education in related field required.
  • 3 years’ experience and or a combination of education and experience.
  • 3 years’ experience in a visitor facing role at a comparable organization.
  • Requires knowledge of basic principles and concepts of a museum operation.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of conducting needs assessment.
  • Studio art, art history, or art education background.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English language skills preferred due to local community demographics.
  • General knowledge of information technology and business software applications.

Special Conditions:

  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
